Obituary

Erwin Carlos Lamoreaux, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on January 22, 2026, at the age of 85.

Erwin was born on February 23, 1940, in Cedar City, Utah, to Homer and Rilla Thornton Lamoreaux. He grew up in Provo, Utah, and graduated from Provo High School in 1958. On September 12, 1963, he married the love of his life, Linda Marie Longman, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they made their home in Orem, Utah, where they raised eight children and welcomed 31 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren into their family. His family was always his number one priority.

Erwin was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a Scoutmaster for many years. He was not a man of many words, but he expressed his testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ through his constant service to his family and to everyone in his life. He was an extremely hard-working man who was always serving others.

In his early years, Erwin worked as an automobile mechanic and owned his own service station in Provo, Utah, where he built lasting relationships with many loyal customers. Later, he worked for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Facilities Management FM Group. He devoted more than 35 years of employment to the Church and countless additional hours helping anyone and everyone. He had to be asked to retire, and even then, he was soon called to serve a mission in the same department. For four more faithful years, he continued doing the work he loved as a missionary while teaching others along the way. He loved his Heavenly Father and showed it through his lifelong service to others.

Erwin was the best father and grandfather anyone could ask for. He loved everyone and made sure they felt important. Alongside his sweet wife, Linda, he attended every important event in his grandchildren's lives. He was the family mechanic, plumber, painter, mover—anything anyone needed. If you had a question, he had the answer. If you knew Erwin, you knew he loved potato chips and Pepsi, banana cream pie, and grilled cheese sandwiches. He also loved fishing, camping, hunting, mowing his lawn, and tending his garden. He faithfully cared for his beloved wife until the day she passed. Erwin enjoyed good health throughout his life until suffering a stroke in 2020. His family then returned the tender care he had so lovingly given to them. He remained a valiant servant of the Lord until his final breath.

Erwin was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Longman Lamoreaux; his parents; his brothers Del Var, Theron, and Larry Lamoreaux; and his twin grandsons, Tyler Steven Torman and Trenton Lee Torman.

He is survived by his children: Kari (Steve) VanderDoes; Danny (Andrea) Lamoreaux; Brock (Pam) Lamoreaux; Toni (Steve) Torman; Mike (Laura) Lamoreaux; Jon (Marissa) Lamoreaux; April (Brad) Reedy; and Holli (Dan) Hart; along with 29 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and his beloved sister, Mona Lou (Bob) Reed.
