Obituary for Alan Lewis Markham

Our dear son, brother, father, and friend Alan Lewis Markham passed away on Thursday, April 6 at his home in Murray, Utah. Alan was born to Dixon and Junece Markham on April 26, 1972, in Provo Utah. Alan was a sweet and caring father and friend to his children Luke and Sybil Markham, the kindest and most thoughtful son to his parents, and a beloved brother to his five siblings: Michael Markham, Kevin Markham, Mary Ann Christiansen, Karl Markham, and Scott Markham. He was adored and loved by his many nieces and nephews, and their spouses and children. To each he gave individual attention and knew how to make each person feel valued and loved. His hugs were big and long and comforting.

Alan had a natural ability to love and care for those with special needs. Our family was blessed with two such children—Alan's younger brother, Scott and his niece, Juliett. Alan demonstrated compassion and kindness as he spent countless hours filling their lives with laughter and love. He put his entire being into loving those close to him.

Alan loved being a father and loved his children and their relationship more than anything in his world. He loved taking camping trips with them all over the Western United States—sharing his love of mountain biking and some of the most beautiful and undiscovered places.

Alan attended Rock Canyon Elementary, Farrer Junior High and Timpview High School in Provo, Utah. He went on to receive a Bachelors of Science at Brigham Young University and pursued postgraduate studies at Virginia Commonwealth University. He served an LDS mission to the Ohio Columbus Mission.

Alan was remarkably always true to himself. He was authentic and real—never changing who he was based on the influences of the world.

Alan was driven by his passions in life. He was a talented musician—mastering jazz and blues with his arsenal of vintage keyboards—including his very favorite—the Hammond B3 organ. He loved music, listening to music live, listening and exploring different genres of music, playing music with various bands and creating a home filled with music with his children. It was rare to find him without music playing in his house. He loved to create music, listen to music, hear, see and feel live music and play music especially with his children.

He lived for camping, mountain biking, skiing and roaming the open lands across the west—with his heart and soul always coming back to the beautiful and wild lands near Moab, Utah.
