IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alexandre
Paul
July 11, 1936 – September 15, 2024
Alexandre Paul, 88, beloved father of 5, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024. He is survived by his son, Gregoire Gilbert Paul, and daughters Alexandra Paul and Valerie Paul. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Gregoire Richard Paul, Sierra Ghislaine Paul, Alexandre Jean Claude Paul, Michaelle Leandre Paul, and Gibou Antoine Paul. Alexandre is also survived by his siblings Laura Paul, Antonio Paul, Ernst Paul, Joseph F. Paul, Kesner Paul, Paula Paul, and Marie Jeanne Paul Lundi. He is now reunited with his wife of 43 years, Colombe Helen Paul, his sons Jean-Richard Paul, Reginald Alberoni Paul, his father Antonio Paul, his mother Lydia Dieudonne Paul, his brothers Emmanuel Paul, Max Paul, and Jean-Claude Paul, his sisters Hermite Riche and Antoine Riche, and granddaughter Ann Daniel Paul, and any others who have passed away before him.
Alexandre Paul was born in Haiti and pursued a successful career as an attorney. He will be remembered for his passionate defense of legal Haitian migration and Haitian rights during his tenure as Ambassador to the United Kingdom, General Counsel in Miami and Nassau, Bahamas, and the Haitian representative to the United Nations in New York. After his diplomatic service, he returned to Haiti to work in private law practice. Alexandre's dedication to Haiti's well-being and prosperity led him to serve in the CEP (Conseil Electoral Provisoire) to ensure free and fair elections. His unwavering commitment to his clients' rights and the rule of law resulted in his unjust incarceration as a political prisoner for three years, two months, and seventeen days. Despite being exonerated in court, it was the pressure from US congressmen and senators that ultimately secured his release.
In his later years, Alexandre retired from law and politics to devote himself to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He found joy in tending to his fruit trees in his mountain home in Fermathe, Haiti, and later in his residence in Nephi, Utah. He loved traveling the world with Diane Pietryga. He always enjoyed going to Joseph and Marie Dragon's house to celebrate special occasions. As well as Jean-Louis Cenat Fil's house. He had a great sense of humor and loved sharing jokes, traveling the world, and captivating his family and friends with stories of politics and his experiences. He had a fondness for marquise au chocolat and Haitian bread pudding, and he valued authenticity above all else.
On December 31st, Alexandre and his wife Helen would dance together to welcome the New Year. We hope that this year, he will be dancing with her in the spirit world as the New Year makes its debut.
The family would like to express their gratitude to all those who have offered support and care during this difficult time.
