Alice Lee Carter Ludlow

Alice Lee Carter Ludlow was born May 15, 1927 in Pleasant View, Utah (later incorporated to Orem) to Leland Clark and Blanche Gilner Carter. She attended the Spencer Elementary School and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1945.
Alice grew up on a farm. They raised chickens and trout. They always had a cow or two. She helped her father with everything from planting to harvest and tended the chickens with her mother.
Alice got her pilots license at the age of 16. Alice served as a volunteer in the Utah Civil Air Patrol where she flew search and rescue.
Alice attended Weber State University where she joined the United States Cadet Nurse Corps in June 1945 but later changed her major and graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Sociology and Psychology. She was the only member of her family to graduate from College.
Alice joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in Primary, Relief Society, as a visiting teacher and served 4 missions and was a temple ordinance worker.
She married Melvin J Ludlow on 25 November 1949. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple 14 April 1952. They celebrated 64 years together before Mel's death in 2013.
Alice worked at Dugway Proving Grounds for the Department of defense until Kathryn was born in 1953. They lived in Dugway until Kathryn was 5 and Sharon was 3.
Melvin J the 2nd was born after they moved to Orem and built a house next door to Alice's parents.
Alice taught 4-H. Sewing, tailoring, woodworking, canning, gardening, cooking.
She served a mission for the Sharon Stake in 1970.
Alice and Mel went on a BYU semester abroad, along with Mel II for 6 months and learned to love Israel and it's people.
Together they traveled and saw the world.
In July – August 1972 the whole family traveled to England, Scotland, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, France, Germany, Switzerland, Portugal and Spain. It was a life changing experience for the family.
After retirement Alice and Mel served for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as special representatives in Israel where they helped to prepare the way for the Jerusalem Center to be built. They served in the St George Historic Sites Mission, twice.
Alice was awarded a Congressional Gold Medal in 2019 for her service during WWII with Utah Civil Air Patrol. Later that year she was honored as a woman aviator at the opening of Cedar Valley High School. They are the Cedar Valley Aviators.
After Mel died, Alice lived with Sharon and John from December 2013-June2015. In June 2015 Robert and Kathryn moved her to Kansas to live with them. In May 2021 she moved to Sunridge Assisted Living Center in Roy, Utah so she could get the 24 hour care that she needed.
Alice passed away on Saturday 22 February at the Sunridge Assisted Living Center in Roy Utah.
Alice is survived by daughters Kathryn Sindt of Overland Park, Kansas, Sharon Fritsche (John) Roy, Utah and son Melvin 'J' Ludlow II (Patty) Tomball, Texas and brother Riley (Shirley) Carter, Krebs, OK, as well as 13 grandchildren, Jennifer, Allison, Peter, Nicole, Leland, Stan, Timm, David, Missy, Mary, Becky, Alicia, Scott. 29 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Mel, parents, brother Ray Carter, sister Norma Hope and sons-in-law D. Dean Stubbs and Robert G. Sindt.
Funeral services will be held at Hillcrest 6th Ward Chaple at 1035 S. 800 E. Orem, UT 84097. 8 March 2025. 11AM. Viewing 9:30-10:30AM
Alice will be laid to rest at the Orem City Cemetery.
