Alta Thomas Giles, our beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2019. She was born February 22, 1940 in Bridgeland, Utah to Ray and Erma Clayburn Thomas. In her childhood she was always helping with the family chores, working in the fields and milking many cows. She loved riding her horse and gathering the milk cows morning and night. Ice skating on the slough ponds with her siblings was always a fun time for her. Her family moved to the Tabiona valley when she was 10 years old. She was happy about the move to this beautiful valley with the rock ledges, streams and mountains.
She married Nolen Tom Giles, they had 6 children: Teresa, Nola, Tom, Idawna, Kim, and Brett. She was the most selfless, caring, loving person you will ever meet. Together they worked on their ranch and raised 6 children in this beautiful Tabiona Valley. She worked by her husband's side milking cows, turning water, cut and baled hay, helped with gathering cows on horseback, made some real good meals, would bring lunch and drinks to the family while they were working, took care of the children and made their house a home for all who came to see her. She is known as Grandma Giles to the whole town of Tabiona, she loved everyone. She was always putting others' needs before her own. She always had an extra meal, treat or drink for you this was her way of showing her love for you. Alta enjoyed attending her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren activities including high school sports and rodeo, she would get caught bragging about all their accomplishments. Beware, she liked to play a joke on you, she was always up for a good laugh.
Alta is survived by her husband Nolen, 6 children: Teresa (Sandy) Hoffman, Nola Giles, Tom Giles, Idawna (Luke) Defa, Kim (Jenny) Giles, Brett (Chanel) Giles; 19 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Renae (Dale) Wright, Ann Thomas, and Craig (Rosalyn) Thomas.
