Barbara Jean Burnside 87, of Orem, Utah, went back into the arms of her eternal love on Friday, April 29th. She was born on October 6, 1934 to Elton Mecham and Florence Merillene Mecham. She grew up in Provo, Utah, and later raised her family in Orem, Utah.

She graduated from Provo High School.

On November 29, 1957 she married the love of her life, Melvin Reed Burnside. They were married 22 years until he passed away.

Barbara had countless jobs she loved and enjoyed over the years. In 1999 she retired from Utah Valley Medical Center.

Barbara was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and over her life had many callings. She would help whenever she could and never hesitated from taking salads to the church, making fudge at Christmastime for the Young Men and Young Women, or making baby quilts for those in need.

You never left mom's house hungry. She was a great cook and could throw together a meal or stretch one to include unexpected company in a moment's notice. Everyone was welcome at her table. Her homemade dinner rolls were legendary. Mom loved flowers and took pride in having a beautiful yard. She spent time each day pulling weeds and dead heading her flowers. A weed never had time to get much of a start in her yard!

Barbara was loved by all who knew her, if you weren't family, she made you feel like you were. She will be greatly missed.

Barbara is survived by her children: Reed (Janette) Burnside, Collette (Jeff) Miller, Blaine (Linda) Burnside, Mary (Jeff) Thomas, Randy (Mayna) Burnside, Melvin Jay (Barbara) Johnson, Gary (Cynthia) Johnson and son-in-law Joe Johnson. Countless grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Melvin, Daughter Marie, and son Stewart.

Funeral services willl be held Monday, May 9, 2022, 11:00 am at the Sunset Heights 6th Ward building, 500 South 600 West, Orem, Utah. Visitation will be from 9:00 - 10:30 am at same location. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family online at www.walkersanderson.com.
