Obituary

Our devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, best friend, teacher, and hero, Barbara Sue Prior Haynie, graduated with high honors from this earthly experience on January 16, 2020. Mom was deeply surrounded by love and laughter from both sides of eternity when she passed through the veil. Born July 18, 1943 to John B and Helen Virginia Prior, mom came with a disposition of selflessness. Mom truly encompassed the attributes of charity and Christ-centered love. Mom married her high-school sweetheart, Clarence M. Haynie on August 11, 1961, and then they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Manti, UT Temple on December 22, 1962. Mom's hobbies included drawing, painting, camping, fishing, and anything that meant her family was spending time together. Mom was quite a jokester; she was always doing things to make people laugh and was not afraid of being silly to put a smile on someone's face. Anyone that knew her expressed that they felt loved by our mom. Mom had the most tender, Christlike spirit of anyone her family ever knew. Selflessly, mom always looked to put others' needs above her own. As a natural-born healer, mom would have literally given the shirt off of her back, fed you, cheered you up and made you laugh before sending you on your way. Grateful for all she had been given, Mom gave to others and expected nothing in return. The twinkle in her eye revealed that she loved and cared for you. Of the many things we will miss, this twinkle and Mom's mischievous grin are highest. When mom was about to do or say something that she knew she was not supposed to, these "tale-tale signs" gave away that she was going to say or do it anyway! A quote by an unknown author reads, "I truly never learned what the words 'I miss you' were until I reached for my mom's hand and it wasn't there." Mom was one of our greatest teachers. Her lesson has always been on unconditional love. No matter how much we want her here, we honor the journey she is now on and will embrace the new way she will show up to teach us. "Mourning is one of the deepest expressions of pure love. "Thou shalt live together in love, insomuch that thou shalt weep for the loss of them that die" (D&C 42:45) (Russell M. Nelson, April 1992 General Conference). As a family, we thank all of you who have mourned with us. We feel comfort, peace, and our burdens lightened in times that seemed unbearable. Your act of service supports our mother's belief that prayer works, and is a tender mercy to us. Mom is survived by the loves of her life- husband: Clarence Martineau Haynie, and adoring children: Tami Lynne Taylor, John Clarence Haynie, Stacy Virginia and John Hanson, Susan Carol and Ben Byerly, 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and her best friend and sister Marilyn Harris. Services will be held at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem on Friday, January 24, 2020. 10 – 11:30 am the viewing, followed by the funeral at Noon. Interment will be at the Orem City Cemetery.
