Berdean Hales Jarman "HAMP" "Hamp" quietly and peacefully passed away on Friday afternoon, November 10, 2017. Dad was born at the family home where he grew up on July 17, 1931 to T.LeGrand and Iona Mae Hales Jarman. It was on the farm that Dad learned the value of hard work and the importance of work ethic. It is also where he earned the nick name of "HAMP", a name that he is known by friends and family to this day. We have drawers full of "Best of Show" and Grand Champion ribbons for the Hampshire pigs that he raised and showed at the county and state fairs as a young boy. There was also not a sport that he did not like. Dad excelled in baseball, football and basketball through Pleasant Grove High School and then on to Utah State with Udell and Lavell where they all graduated and went on to become successful coaches. Dad married his high school sweetheart, Sydney Jean Young and they moved to Snow College in Ephraim to begin his coaching and teaching career. Shortly after they moved "home" to Orem and the old Lincoln High while the new high school was being built. He taught History and Health, coached baseball, basketball and football. Dad later received his Master's Degree and moved into administration where he later became Principal of Orem High School. The highlight of Dads career was in l988, Orem High won the state football championship. Instead of hanging up his sword and retiring, he "hung up his toupee" and quietly rode off into the sunset of retirement and golf in St. George. Mom passed away in 2014, he never completely recovered but each morning you could find him with the boys at Dennys for coffee where there were wild tales and lots of BS. Berdean is survived by three children, Tom (Richfield), Laurel Allman (Orem) Paul (Logan) and six grandchildren. Also survived by his brother, Ray and 3 sisters, Barbara, Myrna and Alayne. As per Dads request- to open the hole and put him in, there will be a viewing on Tuesday evening, November 14 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Walker Sanderson Mortuary, 646 East 800 North in Orem. Graveside services will be on Wednesday, November 15 at l: 00 pm. Condolences may be offered to the family online at walkersanderson.com. Dad, you have inspired us and made us what we have become today. You have also had an impact on the many students and athletes you came in contact with. We thank you with all our hearts! He has now found his seat at the coffee table above with Mom, Westovers, Tuckers, Micklesons, Phil and Kae eating Laura's famous pecan pie! Love and Miss you already!
