Berkeley Terry Compton was born on April 3, 1940, in Weiser, Idaho, to Mary Nola Chandler and Asa Berkeley Compton. The third of twelve children, Terry grew up moving throughout the country, carrying especially fond memories of his time in Yakima and Toppenish, Washington.

At fifteen, his family relocated to Columbia, South Carolina. There, Terry met his future wife, Lillie Deaton Wilkerson, at church. They attended the same high school, sharing activities, dances, and a growing friendship that followed them to Brigham Young University. Their relationship deepened, and they became engaged before Terry left in 1960 to serve a mission in Hong Kong, speaking Cantonese.

After nearly three years, Terry returned to Salt Lake City, where Lillie and her family were waiting. The two were married on August 6, 1963, in the Salt Lake City Temple.

Terry later graduated from the University of South Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in Economics. He spent his career working with computers, eventually specializing in software engineering, where he earned several awards for his contributions.

Terry and Lillie welcomed three children into their home: Lillie Kaye, Benjamin Berkeley, and Jenny Lyn. Their home was centered on the truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ, guided by the scripture, “And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children.” (Isaiah 54:13)

Terry and Lillie were married for 47 years before her passing in September 2010. Afterward, Terry moved to Utah to be closer to family. There he met Carolyn Green, and the two were married on April 5, 2023. Terry and Carolyn had been married three years at the time of his passing.

Terry was preceded in death by his mother, Mary; his father, Berkeley; and his sister, Afton. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Green Compton; his three children—Lillie Kaye (Mike) Moen, Benjamin Berkeley (Susan) Compton, and Jenny Lyn Compton; nine grandchildren; and sixteen great‑grandchildren.
