IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Betty Gwenneth
Haden
May 27, 1929 – December 4, 2023
Betty Gwenneth Haden, our beautiful angel, mum, Nana, and Great Nana, passed away peacefully from this life on December 4, 2023 at the age of 94, in Payson Utah at the home of her oldest son and daughter in law David and Nina after 7 months of loving care, surrounded by the love of her family.
Betty was born on May 27, 1929, in Carlton, Victoria, Australia, to Bernard Alfred (Master Carpenter) and Annie Dolly Muir Allen (Homemaker). Betty grew up on Lang street, South Yarra with her older sister Norma and younger brother Frank. Mum was surrounded by a large extended family of grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins.
Betty worked as a hostess at No. 9 Darling Street South Yarra as a teenager, she was also employed at BON TON Fashions for Mr. Henry Sir as a seamstress sewing beautiful blouses and fine clothing.
Betty was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was baptized on November 7, 1964. Her service in various callings, including primary secretary (for 18 months before she was baptized), primary president, and relief society president, reflected her deep commitment to faith.
Betty's life was a tapestry of love and devotion. She was sealed to her children in the New Zealand Temple for all time and eternity in August 1966.
Betty was blessed with seven children; David, Julie, John, Leanne, Melissa, Matthew and Andrew.
In 1980, Betty embarked on a new chapter, relocating to the United States with her children. Betty was a woman of many talents, she was an accomplished seamstress, and made lots of her own clothing including her wedding dress, her kids clothing, and even her grandchildren's clothing. She loved painting, knitting, crocheting, and enjoyed calligraphy. She sang in the church choir, played the piano, and kept a very meticulous and tidy home. She liked to travel with her family, she liked to cook and was known to make Pavlova, an Australian dessert. A dedicated worker, her legacy extended beyond her family. Many remember her from Reams in Provo UT and her job at the Boy Scouts of America office in Provo/Orem, Utah. She was also a volunteer as a pink lady at Utah Valley Hospital and Orem Community Hospital. She retired at the age of 70 years old. Her greatest joy was her family and friends, and she exuded her love through words and her actions. Known for her humility, positivity, and selflessness, she served as an inspiration to all who knew her.
She had a beautiful smile, an infectious laugh, and a soft spot for Dr. Pepper and chocolate. She is someone we should strive to be like and was an inspiration to us all. She had an unwavering testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ, and the plan of salvation.
Betty is survived by her 6 children; David (Nina) Haden, Payson UT Julie (Jay) Petersen, Kennewick WA Leanne Faughner, Parma OH Melissa (Matt Sample) Haden, Red Oak TX Matthew Haden, Santaquin UT, Andrew (Teresa Brothersen) Haden, Spanish Fork UT.
Betty's love and warmth extended to her 22 Grandchildren and 28 Great-Grandchildren that have given her such joy, leaving a lasting imprint on each precious soul.......Many nieces and nephews, Sisters-in-Law Doreen Allen, Rosemary Haden and Pauline Haden.
She was preceded in death by her son, John Haden, her parents, Bernard and Annie Allen; siblings, Norma Abdallah, and Frank Allen. Brothers-in-Laws David Haden, Lenny Haden, Alfred Abdallah. Son-in-law Van Faughner.
As we bid farewell to our beloved Mum, Nana, Great Nana, Sister-in-Law, Auntie, neighbor, and friend we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by love, faith, service and an enduring legacy of family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. We love you Mum, can't wait to see you again, and it gives us comfort knowing you are in a better place.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the many people who provided care, support, companionship, and friendship to Betty. They went above and beyond with true Christlike love and compassion.
