Bruce Van Orden Bown, 83, passed away on October 1, 2017. He was born in Fayette, Utah on November 16, 1933. As a child, he moved with his family to Provo where he attended Maeser Elementary. The family eventually built a home on the Orem hill and Bruce attended Lincoln High School. After graduating, he served a faithful LDS mission in the East Central States mission. He served in the Army in Japan after the Korean War where he was a chaplain's assistant and developed a love for the Japanese language and people. Bruce loved coin collecting, gun collecting, hunting, gardening, and hiking. He was especially proud of the 22 times he hiked Mount Timpanogos during the annual hike. In 1964, he married his high school sweetheart, Carol Oliver, and they raised five children in Orem. He spent his professional life as a skilled stone mason for Bown Stone Company. He loved spending time with his family camping and fishing and was always up for a card game-especially Mormon Bridge and Rook. Bruce was a kind and quiet man who always put his family first. He loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren and made it a point to ask about their lives and interests. He often let his family know of his strong faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ and his abiding love for his wife. He is survived by his wife, Carol; his children: John (Pearl), Ben, Petrea Greer (Mark), Alisa, and Laura; and his brother, Acell, and sister, Ann, and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, October 7, 2017, at the LDS Hillcrest 6th ward chapel, 1035 South, 800 East, Orem, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral from 9:30-10:30 am at the church. Interment will be held following the services at the Orem City Cemetery.
