Calvin Wilson Herrin, 75 of Provo died Friday, February 24, 2023.
Calvin was born on September 16, 1947, in Mechanicsburg, Mississippi, the son of Curtis Charles and Wyllodeene Herrin.
He was a real southern boy and proud of his heritage. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and being outdoors. He graduated from Bentonia High School in May 1966.
Calvin served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Central Western States Mission from 1966–1968. After his mission he returned to Mississippi and worked with a logging company for $1.60 an hour, and did other odd jobs. He moved to Utah in 1973 and began a job at BYU where he worked for 32 years as a grounds maintenance supervisor. He spent many hours beautifying the grounds and mentoring employed students at BYU. He loved working outdoors and engaging with students and visitors around campus.
While working at BYU Calvin met Martha Engberson. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on February 14, 1975. They made their home in Provo, Utah where they raised their four children.
He enjoyed watching sports and old western movies, woodworking, crocheting hats, doing word searches, and traveling to visit grandchildren. He was able to see many different places throughout his life.
Calvin leaves behind his wife Martha Herrin of Provo, Utah; sons: Curtis (Jamie) Herrin of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; Doug (Larisa) Herrin of Eliot, Maine; daughters: Cami (Lyle) Owens of Payson, Utah; Jolynn (Jeremy) Redden of Willard, Utah; sisters: Cladia Hayes of South Carolina, Ane Hornibrook of Oregon, Sisters-in-law: Mickey Herrin of Oregon, Vi Herrin of Provo, Utah and fourteen grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 3, 2023, at 11:00 am, at the Sunset 5th Ward LDS chapel, 1402 South 570 West, Provo, Utah. A viewing will be held for family and friends from 9:30–10:30, prior to the services. Calvin wll be buried in the Provo City Cemetery.
