Obituary

Carl Masakiela Parker  passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 29, 2019 at his home. He was 44 years old. Carl was born October 17, 1974 in New York City to James Maxie Parker and Gwendolyn Donnita Reeves, and the city was where he spent the first years of his life. At age 9, he moved to Connecticut to live with his aunt, Brenda Norman-Barrett and grandmother, Ethel Bartlett until age 17, when he went to live with Kent and Marilyn Meyers, whose family became his "adopted" family for the rest of his life. But through it all he maintained close contact with his siblings, and loved and worried about them. After high school, he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Chicago area, an experience that helped solidify his faith in God. Following his mission, he moved to Utah where he completed college coursework including culinary school. Carl loved life, and in any group he was a charmer and quick with a joke, but never to make others feel less. People gravitated toward his warm personality and the fun times that naturally followed him. He was thoughtful in finding ways to bring happiness to someone he loved. He immensely enjoyed his vocation of cooking, constantly experimenting and sharing his gift with those he was close to. Spending time in the kitchen, along with filling up notebooks writing rhymes and rap lyrics, were two of his most favored outlets. Carl's life was also marked by struggles that dated back to his formative years and followed him throughout his life. But one of his hallmarks was a relentless determination to get back up and move forward after every setback. His persistence was an inspiration. Part of his resilience emanated from his unfailing faith in God. He shared his own faith often and readily with friends and strangers alike. Through his challenges, he never doubted that God was there for him.  Carl was married three times over the years, first to Jan Lindley (1996-98), then to LaCrista Thompson (2003-2010), and lastly to Shanda Gallagher (2015-2017). He had children from the first two of those marriages, and he loved his boys throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Ronald Eutsay, and he is survived by his siblings Donnita Eutsay, Richard Eutsay, Jemel Harrigan, Anthony Parker and Maxie Parker, his beloved cousin Danielle Norman, and his sons Quincy James (Joe) Parker Corliss, Tsion Parker, Jahai Parker, and Isaiah Parker. He also leaves behind 4 nieces, 6 nephews, 3 great nephews and 1 great niece. Memorial services will be held  at 3:00 pm on Friday, October 4, 2019  at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at  1120 E. 600 N., Orem UT 84097 . Interment will be at Timpanogos Memorial Gardens in Orem. Condolences may be shared with the family online at www.walkersanderson.com
