Obituary

Carol Jean Conover Ferguson (94)

Carol was born August 30, 1930, in Provo, Utah to Richard (Dick) and Fawn Conover and passed away on January 30, 2025. She grew up in Springville, Utah but later resided in Orem for most of her life.

During her school years, she was the 1st chair clarinet player all through Jr. High and High School. Band was her favorite class.

Carol was an only child but years later her father remarried Josephine Mower Duncan, and she gained 6 stepbrothers and sisters: Bill and Gerry Duncan, Sallie and Eugene Davies, Catherine and Jim Walker, Jim and Carma Duncan, Kerry and Nedra Duncan, and JoAnn and Alan Reed. She cherished having them and their families in her life.

Carol went to BYU for several semesters before she married James Cecil Ferguson or 'Cec' (as he was nicknamed) on November 17, 1952, in Las Vegas, Nevada. They later moved to Orem, where she lived in the same house for almost 70 years. A few years later they were sealed in the Provo Temple.

Cecil worked on his fruit farm and Carol always helped during the pear harvesting season until Cecil died in 1980. She also worked for many years in the bindery at Community Press and always enjoyed those she worked with.

Carol had 3 children: Richard 'Ric' Cecil (Lisa) (of Orem, UT), Gary Russell (Colleen) (of Denton, TX), Sherry Kay Ferguson (of Orem, UT), and loved her family with all of her heart. She adored her 7 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Carol loved having colorful flowers and a beautiful yard and worked hard to keep it well groomed. She was a huge BYU fan and went to football and basketball games for decades until she became an "armchair quarterback" and watched as many BYU sports as she could.

She was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and always enjoyed serving others. She served for years as the Young Womens Sports Director and the Compassionate Service Leader, along with other assignments. She ministered to everyone in her younger years and was ministered to by so many of her ward family in her later years.

She moved into the Courtyard at Jamestown in Provo at the end of 2020, where she made new friends and was blessed until the end by the Jamestown Branch. She received much loving care from many people there, especially Donna, her hospice caregiver, and her wonderful nurse, Sara. She lived a long, wonderful life and was happy and positive as she endured until the end. She loved the song 'Did I Fill the World with Love?', which she did, her 'whole life through'.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, Cecil Ferguson, daughter-in-law, Lisa Nelson Ferguson, parents Richard Conover, Fawn Stephens, stepmother, Josephine Conover, and stepbrothers and sisters, Bill Duncan, Catherine Walker, Sallie Davies, Jo Anne Reed, and Jim Duncan.

A viewing will be held on Monday, February 3, 2025, at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 E 800 N, Orem, UT from 6-8pm.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 11am at the Timpanogos Park 4th ward church at 955 N 300 E, Orem, Utah with a viewing from 10-10:45am. Interment will be at the Orem City Cemetery.
