Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Carol Katherine Finch Weibell, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2019, at the age of 89.
Carol was born in Elberta, Utah on October 8, 1929, to James Oliver and Agnet Cecelia Jensen Finch. Both of her parents had passed away by the time she was eighteen months old. She was loved and raised by George Nephi and Elvira Irene Greenhalgh Finch, her uncle and aunt. When Carol was nine years old, George (whom she called "Daddy") was killed in a mining accident.
Carol loved to read and to learn. She began playing the piano at a young age and has brought joy to many through her love of music. She graduated from Tintic High School in Eureka, Utah. In 1947, she moved to Oakland, California, to live with her sister and to earn money for college. At a Latter-day Saint ward in Oakland, she met and fell in love with Fred John Weibell who was stationed with the Navy at Treasure Island. She returned to Utah to attend Brigham Young University and married Fred the next year, on March 18, 1949, in the Salt Lake Temple.
In 1953, Carol and Fred moved from Murray, Utah, to Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 1962, they moved to Northridge, California, where they established their home for thirty-nine years. Carol went back to school and earned a bachelor's and master's degree in psychology and her M.F.C.C. (Marriage, Family, and Child Counselor) license. She was a member of the Association of Mormon Counselors and Psychotherapists. She loved helping others through her work as a therapist.
In 2001, Carol and Fred built a home in Alpine, Utah. They enjoyed their golden years there spending time with friends, family, and their growing posterity.
Carol was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her love of and devotion to the Savior was felt by all who knew her, and she often shared her testimony of Him. She served in many capacities in the Church including Relief Society president, Primary president, Primary and Relief Society pianist, ward choir accompanist, and for many years as ward organist. In 2004 and 2005, she and Fred served two consecutive missions as tour guides at the Joseph Smith Birthplace Memorial in Sharon, Vermont.
Carol and Fred are the parents of four children. They raised their children in a home filled with love, learning, happiness, prayer, gospel principles, and beautiful music. Carol has always worked hard and made sacrifices in order to provide opportunities for each of her children.
Carol was preceded in death by her eternal companion, Fred, who passed away in 2015, and by her parents, and her siblings, Iona, George, and Curtis. She is survived by her four children: Mark J. (Ginger) Weibell, Orem, Utah; Carol Lee Weibell, West Jordan, Utah; Marci Ann (Gerald) Olsen, Brigham City, Utah; and John Christian (Karin) Weibell, Dannstadt, Germany; 22 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Our family would like to express special appreciation to the staff and caregivers of Highland Glen Assisted Living Memory Care; Tanya and Jessica, Carol's skilled and caring hospice Nurses from Hospice for Utah; Matt and Teresa Seal and the caregivers at Treasured Moments Home Care, and to all the professional caregivers who took such tender, loving care of our mother.
Our family is also grateful to members of the Alpine Fifth Ward and to friends and neighbors who always went above and beyond to help our parents. We also thank the Wild Rose Branch leaders who made it possible for our mother to attend Church services, even days before her passing.
We would like to thank Walker-Sanderson Funeral Home for their kind and attentive service.
