Carolyn Shurtliff Faldmo passed away on Friday, August 31, 2018, at the home of her daughter in Orem, Utah.   She was born October 13, 1940 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Fred and Vella Shurtliff. She spent her childhood and teenage years in Bountiful.  In high school she was involved in debate, cheerleading, band, and student government. She spent her summers working at the Bryce Canyon Lodge. After graduating from Bountiful High School in 1958, she started college at BYU and then transferred to the University of Utah. She graduated with a degree in Home Economics. A BYU semester abroad in Europe sparked her love to travel.  She married the love of her life, Norman Wilhlem Faldmo Jr. on December 20, 1962 in the Salt Lake Temple. After spending the first few years of their married life in Salt Lake City and Bountiful, they eventually moved their young family to Orem, where they raised seven children.  Carolyn dedicated her life to being a wonderful wife and mother. She was the embodiment of a loving matriarch. Her family and those who were close to her were the beneficiaries of her planning, resourcefulness, organization, and creativity. Carolyn loved being a 4-H leader for her children and neighbors. She was her children and grandchildren's biggest cheerleader and rarely missed a sporting event, play, or performance, in which they participated! She served in various callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Much of her service was spent in the Young Women's and Relief Society organizations.  After graduating from college, she began her teaching career at Hillside Jr. High in Salt Lake City teaching Home Economics.  She made the decision to be a stay at home mom once she began having children.  Once her children where all in school, she resumed her career at Pleasant Grove High School and then at Mountain View High School.  She taught for over 20 years.  She loved getting to know her students and especially enjoyed her involvement with the FHA club members.  She was a firm believer in the importance of education and encouraged her students, children, and grandchildren to make it a priority.  After retirement, Carolyn and Norman served 2 missions to the Polynesian Cultural Center in Hawaii, taught English to college students for a year in China, and served a family history mission in St. George. They loved to travel and felt fortunate to have explored the Baltic States, Philippines, South Pacific, Scandinavia, Russia, Greece, Mexico, and Alaska. Her favorite vacation spot on earth was with her family on their house boat at Lake Powell. She also enjoyed her sister getaways with Freda, Jo, and Nancy.   Carolyn left her mark on everything she did. She believed in the importance of developing the divine gifts and talents of her children, grandchildren, and those around her. She spent her life working to help those she loved to realize their gifts and encouraged them to share these gifts with others.?Carolyn believed in the importance of strengthening relationships with those she loved.  She worked hard to do this by creating memories through service and meaningful activities.  Her children and grandchildren will always have fond memories of the trips to Lake Powell and the Faldmo Family Reunions that have occurred every other summer since 2000.     Carolyn and Norm have thoroughly enjoyed their last 11 years in the Sun River retirement community in St. George, Utah.  The Faldmo family wishes to express their gratitude to our parent's neighbors and friends in the Sun River community for their kind and thoughtful service.  We would also like to thank Jonathon, Deborah, Von and the rest from Horizon Home Health and her caregiver Trissy from St. George. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 55 years, Norman Wilhelm Faldmo, Jr., seven children David (Robin) of Jefferson, SD, Ann Gallagher (Shawn) of Springville, UT, Jill Clark (Jay) of Orem, UT, Chris (Aubrey) of North Sioux City, SD, Julie Nilson (Todd) of Saugus, CA, Steve (Lori) of St. George, UT, and Jonathan(Val) of Heber City, UT, 27 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and sisters Freda Eldon, Nancy (Harold) Reynolds, and Joann Farrer. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Vella Shurtliff, her brother, Steven Shurtliff, and her brothers-in-law Scott Eldon and Robert Farrer.  Services will be held on Thursday, September 6 th , 2018 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel located at 1035 South 800 East in Orem, Utah.  Viewing will be from 9:45-10:45 AM.  The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM with Bishop Roger Dayton presiding.  Interment will be at the Memorial Lakeview Cemetery in Bountiful, Utah.
