Carolyn June Soper Hacking, age 89, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2026, in Springville, Utah, surrounded by her loving family.

Carolyn was born in 1937 to Carroll “Pappy” and Virginia “Ginna” Soper in Salt Lake City, Utah. She attended high school in Visalia, California. One month after graduating High School, she married the love of her life, Kenneth J. Hacking, in the Salt Lake Temple.

Ken and Carolyn began their life together in Provo, while Ken attended Brigham Young University, studying physics. Ken supported their growing family by fixing televisions and radios, while Carolyn devoted herself to caring for their home and children. After Ken graduated from BYU in 1963, he began working at Utah Technical College. As their family grew, they purchased a home in Orem where they could raise the large family they had dreamed of. Together, they raised eight beautiful children.

Ken and Carolyn made many wonderful memories, taking their family on frequent trips and adventures. They visited Vernal where Ken grew up and their children enjoyed spending time with their grandparents, Evelyn and Owen Hacking. They also often traveled to Salt Lake City to visit Carolyn‘s parents, Pappy and Ginna, creating cherished memories along the way. These times were filled with love, laughter, and the kind of memories that would stay with their children and grandchildren for years to come.

When Ken became ill in 1970, Carolyn took on more and more responsibilities while continuing to care for him until his passing in 1992. She was a devoted wife and mother who gave so much of herself to her family.

Carolyn also had a remarkable gift for caring for others. She volunteered for many years at Provo Hospital in the newborn nursery, where she loved holding and nurturing the babies. She opened her home and her heart to more than 25 exchange students from countries around the world, many of whom still lovingly call her “Mom.” She also welcomed neighbors and families into her life and had a special ability to communicate with and make people feel loved.

After Ken passed away, Carolyn met and married Richard Harrison. They traveled around the country, helping children. Later, after the marriage ended, she married a long time family friend, Melvon Perry. Together, they served a mission in Crescent City, California, watching over the missionaries and new members there. Both Richard and Melvin have now passed away. Carolyn always told her children that she has had enough husbands and didn’t wish to marry again.

Carolyn was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints. She served in many ways throughout her life, including Primary, Relief Society, and compassionate service. One of her greatest joys was singing in the choir, where she shared her love of music and her faith with those around her.

What Carolyn loved most was spending time with her family. She had a special gift for making holidays, birthdays, and family get-togethers meaningful and memorable. Bringing her family together and making those occasions special brought her great joy. Her greatest legacy is the love she gave to her family and the many memories she created with them.

Carolyn is survived by her seven children: Marsha (Dan) Warwood of Hooper, Utah; Janet Blackburn of Springville, Utah; Erick Hacking of Las Vegas, Nevada; Mark Hacking of Orem, Utah; Marian (Perry) Bowers of Spanish Fork, Utah; Michael (Ophelia) Hacking of West Jordan, Utah; and Carl (Vickie) Hacking of Orem, Utah. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth J. Hacking; her son, K. Scott Hacking; her brother, T. Michael Soper; and her parents, Carroll and Virginia Soper.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Ashford Memory Care for the love, kindness, and compassionate care they gave our mother throughout her years there. We will always be grateful for the way they loved and cared for Carolyn and for the comfort and dignity they provided to her. We would also like to thank Utah Home Health Care and Hospice for their love and support at the end of her life.

Funeral Services

A viewing will be held Sunday evening, August 16, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at the LDS chapel located at 430 South 700 East, Orem, Utah.

Funeral services will be held at the same location on Monday, August 17, at 11:00 a.m., with a viewing that morning from 9:30–10:30 a.m.

Interment will follow immediately after the funeral services at East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery, 4800 Timpview Drive, Provo,
