IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles Ronald
Green
January 7, 1931 – August 29, 2022
Charles Ronald Green graduated from mortality on August the 29th, at 9:29 PM, surrounded by his loving family while visiting in Rexburg Idaho.
Born on January 7, 1931, the third child of 6, to Charles Wesley Green, and Lola Lucille Leavitt Green, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. With loving memories of the winters' snow fun, and summer mountain camp-outs, the family moved to Phoenix Arizona, at age 10 for new adventures with sun and citrus. He was chosen as the main speaker at Emerson Grammar School graduation from 8th grade.
He was captain of the Jr. Varsity Football Team in the 10th grade (sophomore), and captain of the Varsity team as a senior at North Phoenix High School. They (the "Mustangs") were state champions (AAAA Division) for his Jr. and Senior years. He also served in the National Guard in high school. He also excelled on the North Phoenix High Track Team, lettering all 3 years. During his senior year, he and his relay team won the State Championship, with a record that was held for 15 years.
After high school graduation, he attended Brigham Young University, and was called , and served a 2 year mission to Western Canada for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During his mission, he was called to serve in many leadership positions, including District and Branch Presidents (as Special Assistant to the President). In those days, missionaries served at times without purse or script, and there was a time in a wooded area near Rosalind, Trail, BC walking and seeking a fish for dinner, he had a dangerously close encounter with a black bear.
After mission's completion, he returned to BYU and resumed his studies, joining the Air ROTC Program there. That year, he was elected as one of BYU's " Top Ten Preferred Men on Campus", served in the North Campus Branch Sunday School Superintendency, and was Social Chairman of the Val Hyric Social Unit."
At BYU then, he met and married the love of his life, Evelyn ("Bebe") Haven. They began their eternal family on May 7, 1954 in the Mesa, Arizona Temple. They became parents of 6 beloved and adored children, namely Teri Lyn, (Dennis Crockett), Charles Ronald, Jr. (Melinda DeKlerk), Lori Haven Green (pre-deceased), Gary David ( Jeanne Davis), Gina Gennille, (Saul Hernandez), and Dawna Noelle, (Todd Hammond).
Two weeks after their wedding, he was called into the US Army, where he underwent basic training, clerk typist school, and other trainings at Ft. Ord. California. He received a "Sharp Shooter's Medal" during training. He was then stationed to the Presidio Base in San Francisco, where the happy couple began their first home. After teaching classes in the Classification and Assignment Department, he was transferred to be a Chaplain's Assistant, (to 4 Protestant Chaplains) and remained there at the Presidio Hospital for the remaining 2 years.
Following the Army, they returned to BYU, where he obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, and then on to Arizona State University, with a Teaching Assistantship, where he received his MA in Guidance and Counseling. He taught swimming and was Head Coach of the ASU wrestling team, while he was earning his Master's Degree.
His first job after graduation from ASU, was at Twin Pines Ranch High School (a school for juvenile delinquent boys) in the Idyllwild Mountain area, and moved his little family to Banning, California. He was the Director of Counseling, Head Coach of football, basketball, baseball, track, and taught math, science, English, biology and sciences, as well as physical education.
Though they had been accustomed to losing (no victories in 2 years), he took his boys to their first ever championship the first year. They were undefeated. It was historical. They won every game, and they were the only team in California CIF to go the entire season unscored upon, and were the Arrowhead League Football Champions!
His influence on many of those boys' lives was remarkable, and they became model citizens, one of them becoming the City Attorney for the City of Indio. He was committed to their betterment. He became tired, and left Twin Pines after 6 years.
In 1966 he started his own business, "Success Motivation Institute", with the Paul Meyers Associates. He went to College of the Desert to sell a program to their Business Department, and the College President hired him on the spot to be the College's Guidance Counselor.. This would be the beginning of his 36 year career, serving as Counselor, Golf Coach (2 years state champions), Director of Counseling and finally, Dean of Students. He personally counseled over 71.000 students during those years, and was given accolades and trophies. from the students. As Director of the Guidance Center at College of the Desert, his motto and theme for his staff's goal, was that, "Every person that leaves this office, feels better than when he/she entered".
He did work on his PhD, with Carlfred Broderick (Cal State) and others from BYU.
During his career, besides his work at College of the Dessert, he had a private marriage and family counseling practice. He worked with the social services department in the Palm Springs Stake and Palm Desert Stakes of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
After he retired he went on two more full time missions with his wife, to Honolulu, Hawaii (18 months), and at home (2 years) as Stake Employment/Self Reliance Specialists, which brought many wonderful blessings.
He was called to many leadership positions in the Church along the way, including San Gorgonio District Young Men's President, Counselor to Branch Presidencies, and Bishoprics, Banning Branch President, and was serving as Counselor in the San Gorgonio District Presidency, (with Quentin Hunsaker and Dr. John H. Lake), when Church Apostle Howard Hunter came and made it the Palm Springs Stake. As part of the first stake presidency of the stake, they acquired the property at Big Bear, where many wonderful spiritual events have transpired, and testimonies built. Other callings include being Counselor in the San Bernardino Mission Presidency twice. President Howard Sharp first, then President Nesson. He wore out two cars during those 6 years, driving to all the mission meetings all over the mission. Other callings include, Stake High Councilor, Bishop, Stake Marriage and Family Counselor, Stake Marriage and Family Teacher, Temple Preparedness Teacher, served 12 Stake missions. But, his most fulfilling calling of all, he often noted, was having the BEST, MOST BELOVED family in all the world, and teaching them about "Roles, Goals, Priorities and Values" and to "Clean as You Go"!
He was pre-deceased by his parents, and four siblings, Zara Faye Green (Dr. Callis Herbert), Robert H. Green LLB (Irene Rowan), Darwin Boyd Green (Susan Phipps) and Lola Lucille Green Romney (Jerry Romney III).
His surviving family, besides his beloved children already noted is his younger brother, Wesley Golden Green (Susan Linder).
