IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles Marion
Kerby Jr.
January 24, 1941 – September 16, 2023
Charles Marion Kerby, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on September 16, 2023, at the age of 82. He was born on January 24, 1941, in Las Vegas Nevada, to Viva Elberta Kerby (Leavitt) and Charles Marion Kerby Sr., whom played an instrumental role in the construction of the Hoover Dam.
The family which included Charles, and his sisters Marilyn and Pam, later re-settled in Springville, Utah. Where he graduated from Springville High School. At the age of 19, he enlisted in the National Guard, serving as a dedicated motor pool driver for the officers. During his time of service, Charles also contributed to the construction of the roadways leading to Squaw Peak.
It was during this time that Charles met the love of his life, Marna Johnson. To get a date with her, he humorously held her tennis racket hostage, capturing her heart in the process. They tied the knot on April 12, 1963, and began a loving journey together. Charles and Marna started to build their life in Springville. But eventually settled in Orem, in Marna's childhood home. Their union blessed them with five sons.
After dedicating 32 years of his life to working at BYU Printing Services, Charles retired as an assistant manager over the bindery department. He was widely respected for his hard work and dedication. In addition to his professional achievements, Charles faithfully served in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in the Hillcrest 1st Ward as a bishop, high councilman, first counselor, and a teacher.
Charles had an immense love for his family, and especially his grandchildren, who held a special place in his heart. He possessed a warm and welcoming nature always extending his family circle to include those around him. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting. He also encouraged his family and friends to enjoy the outdoor adventures alongside him. Charles also had a passion for cooking, particularly barbecuing on his Treager grills, and even took part in local competitions, which fueled to him providing catering services to the community. His favorite hobby was undoubtedly golf, which brought him great happiness.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Marna Kerby, five sons Daniel (Amy) Kerby, Brett Kerby, Jeffrey (Melissa) Kerby, Matthew Kerby, and Christopher Kerby, 17 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. He was welcomed into Heaven by his loving parents and two sisters.
Charles will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. His legacy of love, kindness, and passion for life will forever be cherished by his family and friends. May he rest in eternal peace.
