IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Chelan
Feller
March 16, 1983 – January 16, 2026
Chelan Feller, surrounded by her loving family, passed away and returned to her heavenly home on January 16, 2026.
Born on March 16, 1983, in Orem, Utah, to Wilford and Deborah Feller, Chelan was the third of four children. As an infant and toddler, Chelan thrived and hit expected milestones, with her vibrant personality. As she neared 15-18 months, her development progression changed. She became withdrawn and less expressive. For several years, her concerned parents met with multiple doctors, seeking answers. At age four, the puzzle pieces finally came together, and she received the diagnosis of Rett Syndrome. This rare genetic neurological disorder would drastically shape the rest of her life, as well as the lives of her family.
The effects of Rett Syndrome caused Chelan to experience loss of speech, repetitive hand movements, breathing issues, seizures, balance problems, and many other medical problems. Over time, the effects of the illness became more debilitative.
Chelan attended programs and schools for those with special needs – including CBTU and Dan W. Peterson School. After completing high school, Chelan spent the next 20 years of her life attending TURN Community Services day program. Chelan made an impact on all that she interacted with. She enjoyed the fun activities they offered and loved developing relationships with her friends and teachers.
While she could not communicate with her voice, Chelan was able to blink and hold her eyes closed to answer "yes" to a yes or no question. With patience, her family, friends, and program leaders were able to get a sense of what she wanted and needed.
Even though she couldn't speak, Chelan had a great understanding of everything that was going on around her. She comprehended everything. One of her favorite pass times was being read to by her mother, Debbie. They read hundreds of books together.
To the many people who served, taught, aided, and loved Chelan, she was such a bright light. Chelan's smile was a beautiful sight. She had a way of making you feel like heaven was near.
Chelan's life was difficult. She was trapped in a body that did not allow her to experience a normal life. But she handled each challenge with grace and strength. She fought each day of her life. She inspired everyone who knew her.
Chelan is survived by her parents, Wilford and Deborah Feller of Orem, brothers Tate Feller (Perla), and Trevor Feller (Katy), sister Christin Foscarini (Tony), and nine beloved nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held Friday, January 23, 2026 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the chapel for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 1051 E 200 N, Orem, UT 84097. The funeral will follow the next day on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at 11:00 am at the same location.
The Feller family would like to give a special thanks to the many loving care takers and friends that served Chelan throughout her life. Each of you made such a difference to her! Thank you for loving her and serving her.
