Obituary

Cheri Laurel Peterson Theurer passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, age 90, in Orem, UT, after a long and beautiful life.

Cheri was born in American Fork, Utah on August 8, 1935 to wonderful parents William Edward (Bill) Peterson and Ramah Mallet Henriod Peterson. She grew up in American Fork with good friends and graduated from American Fork High School in 1953.

She attended Utah State Agricultural College in Logan, Utah, now Utah State University, where she met and married her loving husband Clark Brent Theurer in the Logan, Utah Temple on December 12, 1956.

They were blessed with four amazing, wonderful children and had many spiritual experiences, fun parties, sporting events and trips together. She loved her husband and children dearly and was a wonderful wife and mother.

They started out in Ames, Iowa until Brent received his PHD and took their first job in Blacksburg, Virginia at Virginia Polytechnic Institute, now known as Virginia Tech.

Their second job was in Tucson, AZ at the University of Arizona where they lived for 35 years, raised their family and enjoyed many wonderful friends.

After retiring they returned to Utah to again enjoy children, grandchildren and extended family. They were blessed to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with their family.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Cheri had many opportunities to learn, grow and serve in all the auxiliaries of the church, 3 times as a Relief Society President, Primary President, 3 years as a Seminary Teacher and always as a visiting teacher.

Through her husband's callings, she was able to meet the Prophet and President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, some of the Twelve Apostles, and other General Authorities of the Church. Some of them stayed in her home.

In 1975 Cheri received the "Elect Lady Award," from the Lambda Delta Sigma Sorority of the Latter-day Saint Institute in Tucson, AZ.

She was blessed to work in the Washington DC Temple while she and Brent lived there on sabbatical.

Later, together, Cheri and Brent served a Proselyting-Leadership Mission in the Washington DC North Mission and in the Timpanogos Utah Temple for 5 years.

Cheri was skilled as a waitress, secretary, and had some nursing abilities.

She loved being a homemaker and raising her children. She cared for extended family, friends and strangers in her home.

She enjoyed genealogy, compiling family histories, good music, sewing, embroidering, crocheting, knitting, cooking, poetry, reading, reunions, parties, board games, puzzles and word games.

She was proud of her pioneer heritage and blessed to have all her great grandparents join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and cross the plains to Utah by wagon, on foot, and by handcart. She collected histories and stories of her ancestors and loved to share the stories with her family.

Her great grandfather, Eugene Alphonse Henriod, helped found American Fork, Utah and was the first teacher in the first free school system in the Intermountain West. Cheri was proud of her great grandfather and she ensured Eugene's original plaque, stating his accomplishment, is on display in the Alpine School District Office.

Cheri is preceded in death by her husband, Clark Brent Theurer. Their children are Cindy (deceased) and Daren Asay of Roy, UT; Mike and Jann Theurer of Orem, UT; Jeff Theurer of Orem, UT; Alan and Julie Theurer of Saint George, UT.

Her 9 wonderful grandchildren are Julie Asay Traver, Lisa Asay, Brittney Theurer Woodis, Brianna Theurer, Bradley Theurer, Brayden Theurer, Brevin Theurer, Brandon Theurer, and Nik Theurer.

Her siblings are brothers, Bill (deceased) and Carol Peterson (deceased) of Henderson, NV; Don & Melissa (deceased) Peterson of Woodland Hills, UT; sisters Ramah (deceased) and Clark Mortenson (deceased) of Logan, UT; Lana (deceased) and Garold Seamons of Murray, UT and many nieces and nephews.
