Cheryl was born in Provo, Utah on February 18, 1947 to Vera Sorensen Whiteley and Kay Otten Whiteley. She passed away on January 11, 2023 at home in Oxford, Alabama. Cheryl grew up in Spanish Fork, Utah the oldest sibling of 2 brothers, Dennis Whiteley and Michael Whiteley and one sister Tamara Swenson.
Cheryl was married to Robert Lynn Dunkley and they raised 2 daughters in Idaho Falls, Idaho; KayeLynn Dunkley Fuller and Jodie Dunkley. Cheryl loved her girls and enjoyed spending time with them. They did a lot of camping and made many trips to Utah visiting Vera and Kay Whiteley on the farm.
Cheryl was remarried to James Ron Fleming on December 24, 1984 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They lived several places in the south and retired in Wedowee, Alabama and then spent their last loving 10 years in Oxford, Alabama.
Cheryl will be remembered by her family and friends for her girls, her love for her cats including her dedication to rescuing and helping to build a pet shelter, and raising money to board homeless strays. Her beautiful painting and ceramics, shopping, and her shoe collection also defined her.
Cheryl loved her 3 grandsons, Riley James Dunkley (Brook), Cooper Robert Dunkley, and Paxton Kay Dunkley. She is survived by her daughters KayeLynn Dunkley Fuller, Jodie Ann Dunkley, mother Vera Sorensen Whiteley, brother Dennis (Adele) Whiteley, Tamara Swenson, and Michael Whiteley. She is preceded in death by her father Kay Otten Whiteley. Shortly following her death, her mother Vera joined her on January 19, 2023 just 8 days after her passing.
A memorial service will be held Friday, January 27 at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 E. 800 North, Orem, Utah in conjunction with the funeral of her mother, Vera Whiteley. The service will be at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will be provided by the Indianola Relief Society at 200 East 200 North, Orem, Utah for family and friends.
