IN LOVING MEMORY OF

December 24, 1925 – March 29, 2025
Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Aunt, Clara Bell Durfey Wixson Pueblo, passed away at the Utah Valley Hospital in Provo on March 29, 2025 at the age of 99 years and 3 months. She was a resident of Grandview in Provo, UT with her son Jeff and daughter-in-law Lisa Pueblo.
Clara was born at home on the 24th day of December 1925, in Bicknell, Utah (Wayne County). She was the seventh of eleven children of Robert Franklin and Mary Louisa Ellett Durfey.
Clara was baptized in the river below Bicknell on the 5th of August 1934 and confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints the same day.
Clara learned the value of hard work and frugality. The family spent their summer months in Red Canyon (Bicknell) raising their food for the winter months. They grew big crops of potatoes, carrots, onions and small white beans. These foods would last all winter and spring. The carrots, potatoes and onions were stored in a deep root cellar by their house.
Clara married Joseph Wesley Wixson on June 20,1942. Joe was 18 and Clara was 16. They lived in Salt Lake until Joe joined the Marines in 1943. Joe went to boot camp in Mojave, California. Clara moved back to Provo, to her mother's house. JoAnna was born January 17, 1944 at Utah Valley Hospital.
January 1945, Joe was shipped overseas. In May of the same year, Clara received a telegram from the war department saying her husband was missing in action in the Pacific since March 19th. Joe was aboard the USS Franklin, one of the Navy's largest aircraft carriers. The fleet was forty miles from Kyushu, Japan when a Kamikaze (suicide plane) crashed into the USS Franklin. Over half the men were casualties.
Clara and Willis Henry Pueblo started dating and married on the second of March 1946. They moved to the San Francisco Bay area where Willie worked for 18 years. Clara loved that city. They had 5 sons. They were living in Price Utah when Willie passed away on February 23, 1977 in the Veteran's Hospital in Salt Lake City. Clara raised the two youngest boys on her own.
Clara and her sister Cora Burgess worked as volunteers at Timpanogas Hospital for many years.
Clara is survived by 6 children: JoAnna (Lee) Stoddard, Moab,Ut; Donald (Connie) Middleton, Ida; Daniel (Gaelynn) Pueblo, Oakley Calif; Russell (Rhonda) Pueblo, Lindon,UT; Jeff (Lisa) Pueblo, Provo,UT; and Shawn (Trudy) Pueblo, Payson, UT.
