IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cloy Lowell
Johnson
July 11, 1936 – November 21, 2025
Cloy Lowell Johnson passed through the veil early Friday morning, November 21, 2025. He was surrounded by his family. He had suffered many years with chronic illness, and we take great comfort knowing that he is now pain free and was received into Paradise surrounded by his family and friends who had previously passed on. We particularly rejoice knowing he was also greeted by his cherished pets, Sam and Coco. Cloy loved his faithful dog, Sam and his, always at his side companion cat, Coco.
Cloy was born during the depression. His Grandfather, Lafayette Laurence Johnson owned a farm in West Provo. There, as soon as he could walk, Cloy worked on the farm alongside his grandfather, uncles and his father, Lowell Lavon Johnson. There, he learned the skill of and pleasure of accomplishing difficult tasks and the rewards of hard, diligent work. He tells stories, that at a very early age, of back breaking weeding of sugar beets, irrigating crops, raising and harvesting hay and caring for and milking dairy cows. He, along with his dad and uncles would deliver freshly obtained cow's milk every morning to the Provo area. Their work model was "A quality product builds a reputation and this reputation in turns builds business!" A work model Cloy continued the rest of his life. Those early year habits of arising early each morning and working hard continued throughout his life.
In High School he would meet the love of His life, Dona Marie Lee. They would be married at the completion of High School. Later they would be sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple for Time and all Eternity. This would be the start of 72 years of marriage. He is the father of two children, Steven Lowell Johnson and Belinda Marie Miller. A grandfather to eight and a great grandfather to twenty-one children! Cloy was a devoted father who instilled in his children a high moral and ethical compass, along with a desire to follow in his footsteps of tackling with all your heart the tasks of life.
As a newly high school graduate and husband, Cloy soon was working three jobs: delivering Coke products to grocery stores, bagging groceries at Allen's Markets, located near Center Street and 5th West in Provo, and then at night working at a cannery in Provo. His work ethics and a natural skill for business caught the eye of Jack Allen, the owner of Allen's Markets. At the age of 19, he became the manager of that store!
His keen business sense, along with the ability to motivate others was a trademark that followed him in his carrier. His reputation as a successful manager was well known in the community. He was hired by Ream's Markets to open a new mega-store in Provo Utah. The store location was affectionately called "the turtle" because the building was previously an ice skating facility and the exterior looked like a giant turtle. For the time period, this was truly a "mega-store". He soon was a store manager for a national grocery store chain, K-Mart foods, temporarily moving to Boulder, Colorado for two years, and then managing the K-Mart Foods in Salt Lake City.
With the children raised, his wife, Dona, started working beside him. This "Johnson Team" would soon find a unique niche in the industry. Cloy was a great negotiator and Dona had a keen eye for what would become highly popular items to sale. They became extremely productive in buying wholesale non-food items to sale in the Ream's Market chain. Eventually, dad would be the main non-food items buyer for Ream's Markets. He would be responsible for millions of dollars of purchases for multiple stores. This was an adventurous time as Cloy and Dona traveled the country making "deals". It was not uncommon for people to go to Ream's Market to find the latest and highly popular items!
After retirement, Cloy worked as a temple worker in the Mount Timpanogos Temple. He loved working with the youth in the Baptismal area. We cherished hearing his stories of the miracles he witnessed and the obvious joy he had serving there. He truly shined in his white clothing! He loved the Savior and His Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In his last year of life, he recorded in his personal scriptures, "I will choose the right! I will always find the right way!"
He was preceded in death by his Grandparents, Alice (who he had great affection toward) and Laurence Johnson, parents, Lowell and Donna Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Dona; his children Steve (Lori) and Belinda (Kirk Miller), and 6 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Cloy; the husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather will be dearly missed. However, his devotion to family, his moral and work ethics, and his love of the Savior will live on in his posterity! Knowing dad, he is already reorganizing and motivating the work force in Heaven! We love you Dad! You will be missed! May the Lord comfort and watch over you until we meet again!
We wish to express our heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Legacy Village for their compassionate care of our father. We are especially grateful to Dignity Hospice, and notably to nurse McKenna, Marcella, and Chaplain Terra, for their dedication and expertise and his faithful friends Ken Taylor and Blaine Hall
Belinda Miller's Personal note:
I am profoundly appreciative of my dad's selfless dedication to raising my boys. In the aftermath of Kirk's horrific car accident, my parents made a commitment to support my family, and they have honored it with remarkable loyalty. Dad, your unwavering presence at every moment has been a source of strength. I find it challenging to express the depth of my gratitude and affection for you. Your dependability has been a cornerstone for our family. The knowledge that you were always there for us has been a profound solace. I am deeply honored to be sealed to you and mom, till we meet again. Dad, I love you.
