Obituary

Colleen Schilling Cranmer, age 86, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, May 15, 2022. Colleen was born in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1936. Her parents were Ramona Williams and Harry Schilling. She grew up in Salt Lake City until her senior year in high school when they moved to Logan, Utah. She worked at the candy counter at JC Penny in Logan. When they moved back to Salt Lake City from Logan, she worked for the dairy and was the "Dairy Princess" in the 24th of July Parade. She lived in California after high school during the summer of 1955 and worked there at Disney Studios for a time. In 1956, Colleen served as an usher in the Los Angeles Temple open house.

She became engaged to Jay Cranmer in October of 1956 and she married him for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple on January 4, 1957. They lived in Salt Lake City for 4 years and then moved to Oxnard, California. Their daughters were born in Utah and after they moved to California, they had their son. Jay's vocation was banking. Colleen was blessed to be able to be a stay-at-home mother. Their family spent 42 years in various cities in California before Jay retired and they moved back to Utah. While in California, Jay and Colleen both worked at the Los Angeles Temple. One evening while Colleen was working, her assignment was to usher 4 boys to be sealed to their parents in the sealing room. As she was walking down the aisle, she heard one boy behind her say, "I always wanted to walk behind an angel." She truly was an angel on earth. She was a devoted daughter, wife, aunt, mother, grandmother, and friend to many in this life.

Colleen served in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Her favorite assignments were working in the library and serving as the Relief Society President. Colleen loved to attend the temple regularly. Some of her hobbies included sewing, playing games with friends, and growing roses and orchids.

Colleen is preceded in death by her parents, brother Paul, and by her daughter Cynthia (Robin) Payne. She is survived by her husband, Jay Cranmer of Orem, UT; children, Julie Hasselbach of Palmdale, CA, and Kenneth (Julie) Cranmer of Spanish Fork, UT; 9 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brother Wayne and sister Jerrie.

Special thanks for the skill and loving care by the Maple Creek Hospice group.
