IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Consuelo Oritz
Roberts
January 11, 1934 – October 31, 2022
Consuelo Ortiz Roberts, 88, very peacefully passed away in Orem, Utah, on October 31, 2022, surrounded by her loving and adoring family.
Consuelo was born on January 11, 1934 in Gomez Palacio, Durango, Mexico to Arturo Ortiz and Guadalupe Galarza Ortiz. She was the 8th of 11 children. She had a happy childhood growing up in Mexico. She also spent some time living and working in California and in Texas where she met her future husband Charles Harvard Roberts. They were both baptized members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1963. They were married on April 15, 1964 and later sealed in the Mesa Arizona Temple on July 20, 1966. Together they had 10 children.
They raised their family in Carlsbad, New Mexico where they lived for 28 years. In 1992 they moved to Orem where she lived for the next 25 years. Since then she has lived in Pleasant Grove, Fairview, and Orem, all in Utah.
Consuelo loved to learn and loved to teach. When she was 20 years old she taught 1st and 2nd grade in a private school. She took sewing classes and piano lessons in her youth. She loved to read and to study. She diligently studied the history and the Constitution of the United States as she prepared to become a naturalized US citizen in April of 1993. She was very proud of her Mexican heritage and equally proud of her US citizenship.
For many years, as she raised her family and cared for her own home, she worked as a nurse aid in hospitals, nursing homes, and care centers. She was respected and loved by those she served and took care of as well as by her employers. She later became a private caregiver becoming both caregiver and friend to those she cared for.
She was an excellent cook – best Mexican food ever! Before there was ever a taco truck there were tacos available in Consuelo's kitchen to anyone who ever stopped by.
To many who knew Consuelo well, she was simply known as "mama." She was a strong and beautiful exemplar of faith, honesty, integrity, patience, and courage. She was a pioneer in her own right. She served faithfully in her church assignments. She loved to do missionary work, genealogy, and temple work. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Consuelo is survived by her children: Rosa (Gilbert) DeWolf, Anna (Rick) Minor, Beth Felton, Charla (Roy) Montclair, Dolly (Norman) Wright, Lisa (Corby) Morris, Gabriel (Sara) Roberts, and Sam (Shauna) Roberts. She is also survived by 35 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings, her husband Charles, son Solomon Roberts, daughter Sariah Roberts, and son-in-law Billy Felton.
