Darlene Anne (Sexton) Hillock passed away on December 31, 2019 surrounded by lots of family. She was born on October 12, 1933 in New Albin, IA to her parents, Leonard Daniel Sexton and Edna Williametta Childs. She married her childhood sweetheart, Roger Allen Hillock on November 11, 1953 in Waterloo, IA. They were together for 45 years before he passed away on January 4, 1999. She is survived by her 5 children, Cynthia Anne Gotberg (Richard), Susan Lynn Hansen (Barry), Robin Rene' Graham (Robert), David Allen Hillock (Sharon), Stephen Gayle Hillock (Deborah), her 21 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren.
Darlene served with selfless love and never stopped looking for another in need. She taught her children to be loving and kind and to work hard to accomplish anything they desired. She was a living example of this as well. She and Roger joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints while living in Cedar Falls, Iowa and they later moved to Sandy, Utah and then on to Orem, Utah. She served as a Stake Young Woman Counselor, Ward Relief Society President, Branch Relief Society Counselor and many, many other callings throughout her life. After Roger died, she served a mission in Slovenia for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at the age of 72 where she worked hard to learn and speak Slovene. This was a major highlight of her life and she loved the wonderful people she met there. For many years she served at the Timpanogos Temple, as well as a mission at the Deseret Industries teaching English and life skills. She enjoyed being the Resident Council President, representing all her friends while living at The Sheridan in South Jordan, UT.
She learned and spoke fluent German due to her total immersion into the German culture as she lived with a native family while Roger served there in the Army. She worked alongside her husband at the Service Stations they owned in both Iowa and Utah while raising their children. She then worked for Good Earth Natural Foods in Provo and Orem for 30 plus years and retired from there. She truly had the Gift of Healing. Her knowledge and skills as a Wellness Counselor, along with her deep faith in God allowed her to help many, many people, both close by and as far away as Canada. Through prayer and her knowledge and study, she was able to keep her husband alive for an additional 15 years, after being told by expert doctors that he only had 6 months to live. She treasured the "bonus" years they had together.
Darlene loved and did her best to emulate her Heavenly Father and her Savior Jesus Christ in all she did. She loved people! She talked to everyone and included them all in her life and in her love. She enjoyed, playing the violin, roller skate dancing, waltzing, ice skating, camping (especially in her yard with her grandchildren in her later years), Rally Racing their VW bug across Europe both as a co-driver and driver, travelling to new places, snowmobiling, jet skiing, walking, horseback riding, swimming, reading, studying and learning, painting, and mostly, being with people, especially her friends and family.
Her places of residence included Waterloo, Davenport and Cedar Falls, IA, Saint Louis, MO, Sandy, Orem and South Jordan, UT, Heidelburg, Germany, and of course Ljubjana, Slovenia while on her mission.
She is preceded in death by her husband Roger, her sister Carolyn Sexton Huizenga and her parents.
