Obituary

David Stanley Dennis, March 12, 1965 - January 31, 2023

Dave was born in Provo to Ronald and Grace Marie Dennis as their first child of what would become a family of six. He was a socially active, outgoing, charming person in his youth. His siblings and friends knew him for his dry sense of humor. He served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Porto Alegre, Brazil. After his mission he attended Brigham Young University (BYU) for several years in pursuit of a degree in psychology. However, while at BYU he began to develop severe social anxiety and a host of other psychological maladies, which drove him to a life of reclusion. He would not finish his undergraduate work at BYU, but pursued a job at Geneva Steel in Vineyard, UT for a while, back when the company was in operation. To cope with his struggles, he turned to substances for several years. However, he eventually found within him a strong will to fully quit use and abuse of tobacco cigarettes and alcohol, a testament to his determination in spite of adverse psychological health circumstances. Dave would eventually finish his undergraduate degree at the University of Alabama and pursue a Master's Degree in psychology at Fort Hayes State University in Hayes, Kansas, showing, again, signs of a determination to persist amid deep personal struggles. Dave would never marry. But when he had it in him to interact, he was an adored uncle by his many nieces and nephews, finding all sorts of creative ways to play. Towards his last few years on earth, Dave spent his time traveling the world, visiting some 50-60 different countries, greatly more than most have had the opportunity to venture to. His travels took him to places throughout Africa, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Central America, and South America. He also traveled extensively throughout the US. He was an incredible journeyman. Unfortunately, just a month and half from his 58th birthday, Dave would succumb to liver disease while in Munich, Germany. He is sorely missed by his family, but we find peace in the knowledge that he is in a better place now. He is survived by his parents, Ronald and Grace Marie Dennis, his brothers and sisters Cameron Dennis (Babette), Stacie Grengs (Jody), Christopher Dennis (Katya), Kathryn Crowther (Brett), and Brad Dennis (Mary), and thirteen nieces and nephews.
