IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David Phillip
Dorr
February 19, 1972 – August 12, 2024
David Phillip Dorr returned to his heavenly home on the morning of August 12, 2024 at the age of 52, while surrounded by his siblings and Mother. It is well-assumed that he is currently riding a quad with his cousin Pete/Uncle Brad or carefully dissecting BYU sports with his Dad -while eating as much red vine licorice as his now perfect body wants!
David was born in Provo, Utah on February 19, 1972 to Phil and Carol Dorr, as the first-born boy in their family, with two older sisters, Debbie and Dawn. His younger siblings were as follows: Daelyn, Danny and Darin. David is also preceded in death by his father, Theodore Phillip Dorr Jr. and survived by his Mother, Carol Dorr, along with his children: Gaven, Garet, Graysen and Brexten – as well as his soon to be four grandchildren.
Early life in Orem was happy-going for David, especially High School, where he made fabulous life-long friends. He was a natural builder and fixer, gifted in woodwork. He designed a chest of drawers that he used his whole life. With a flowing mullet and a special fixation on 80's rock music, he was a poster boy skier and four-wheel aficionado, often performing questionable stunts like jumping over his closest friends (which was probably the least questionable). He also loved hiking and camping, and was especially consumed with all BYU Sports, primarily basketball. Throughout his life, David was neat and tidy; he would wash his own dirty camping clothes, which made his mom happy! He was a gracious listener, an open book and a loyal and compassionate friend.
Perhaps the first of many heartbreaking life experiences took place while skiing at Alta. Before entering the outhouse, he strategically laid just one of his skis against the wall of the bathroom. He knew no single ski could possibly be stolen, but he was proven wrong! He spent the next few months looking for a one-legged skier.
David was convicted in his faith and loved his Heavenly Father. He was thrilled to become a missionary in 1991 for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he faithfully served in the Independence, Missouri mission, encompassing four different states: Iowa, Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska. On the day David died, one of the persons whom he taught the gospel to as a missionary called David's cell where she shared her gratitude to David's family for his service, his goodness and for bringing the Gospel of Jesus Christ into her life so many years ago.
After his mission, David worked as a Concrete specialist for Greene Construction and then returned to his inherited copy center DNA by re-entering the industry and working alongside his father, which he very much cherished. David was always very skilled with his hands and his attention to detail.
In October of 1993, shortly after his mission, David was married to Tanya Staggs where they resided in several Utah cities, including, Orem, Spanish Fork and Mount Pleasant, and where Tanya gave birth to 3 dashing blonde-haired boys. Soon after his marriage, his life-long battle with Chron's Disease began, leading to significant malnutrition struggles, and which would now become a daily battle for comfort, dramatically limiting his physical abilities and impacting all facets of his life. Perhaps the biggest challenge was his sadness and frustration with not always being able to play and spend time with his active children.
David and Tanya ultimately chose to go their separate ways and in 2005 David moved to Las Vegas where In Las Vegas, he married Laura Clarke and they were blessed with a wonderful son named Brexten. Throughout his life David adored Brexten and cherished all of his time with him. They participated in activities such as martial arts, four-wheeling at the dunes, and hiking, when David's health permitted. While David lived in Las Vegas, he primarily stayed in the copy center world, working at Kinkos, where he would occasionally assist celebrity customers, such as Nicholas Cage. Eventually his health prevented him from working full-time, so David returned to his unique handyman skills and took on the occasional project while he worked through his physical struggles.
David will always be known as the family weatherman, where he was fixated on rain and snow and constantly warning his siblings in other states of impending storms. As David approached his final moments, a giant storm of thunder and rain filled a dark sky, a sweet and tender mercy of the Lord, welcoming him home.
David was a huge advocate of prayer, and he found ways to see the Lord's hand, even when the answers came in unexpected ways and timeframes. Ultimately, David found no answers in his decades-long quest for healing in this life. Notwithstanding, he fought to the end, clinging to his faith and latching on to his unwavering conviction of the afterlife that he has now entered. David will be sorely missed, but we will cherish the many special memories and look forward to a very sweet reunion, with a glorious embrace from David's healed and healthy body. God Speed brother and...Go Cougars!
