A wonderful husband, dad, "grampa," brother, uncle, friend and neighbor David Lee Hardy, returned home to his Heavenly Father on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at the young age of 70. He left peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family, 23 days after receiving a diagnosis of metastatic pancreatic cancer that had spread to his liver and spine. Blessed to not have symptoms until two months ago, he lived a life of dignity, peace and love through it all. He passed away as magnificently as he lived his life of family, work and service. David was born in San Bernardino, California on October 1, 1946 to Kenneth and Beverly Hardy. He has one sister, Torey, and two brothers, Charles and Darreld. He attended schools in Colton, California. He excelled in baseball, which he played through college. He attended BYU, working as a flight instructor at Provo Flying Service and loved being a pilot up until his last flight with the Civil Air Patrol in August on a search and rescue mission. While at BYU in September 1968, he met "the girl of his dreams," Georgia Jane Story, and they were married in the Oakland LDS Temple on January 25, 1969. They made their first home together in Provo and loved it so much they decided to never leave. They had six amazing children, all boys except five: Angie, Jennifer, Sally, Kenny, Tammy and Diana and were later blessed with 22 wonderful grandchildren who called him "grampa." He graduated from BYU in construction management in 1983 and in 1987 received a master's of business administration from the University of Utah. David was always a "Hardy" worker and was self-employed as a general contractor, real estate broker and small commercial developer for most of his professional life. He taught construction management for one year at BYU. He started Courtesy Realty and Construction Company in 1972. David enjoyed building things and loved to be busy, always helping one of his children with any project for their home or business. He was an amazing builder of practically anything and did everything to perfection. He built a beautiful cabin nestled in the mountains near Aspen Grove for his family. His last major build job was a fabulous zipline for his grandchildren. It will be a legacy for all of them. David was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and treasures his beliefs and testimony of his Savior Jesus Christ. His beliefs were truly the cornerstone and foundation of his life and he shared those beliefs with countless others in many callings he held in the Church throughout his life. He served in many positions in the church including as a home teacher, Gospel Doctrine teacher, Bishop (Provo North 6th Ward and BYU 51st Ward) and as a counselor in the Provo North stake presidency. He loved serving because he loved working. In 2010 and 2011 he and his sweetheart were privileged to serve a full-time LDS mission in the Baltic States Mission. They served together for 18 months in the mission office in Riga, Latvia and with 89 of the finest missionaries in the Church. Another highlight of his life and church service was working in the Provo Utah Temple as an ordinance worker for 15 years and in the baptistry for almost the last three years. He excelled in almost everything he worked "Hardy" at: baseball (receiving a letter of draft to the minor league team of the Los Angeles Dodgers), certifying as a scuba diver with his priests quorum, his real estate and contractor's licenses, his commercial pilot's and instructor's licenses, his Civil Air Patrol certifications and his drone operating license. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Georgia Jane Story Hardy; his six amazing children: Angie (Damon) Reynolds, Jennifer (Landon) Coleman, Sally Hardy, Kenny (Melissa) Hardy, Tammy (Eddie) Warmsley, and Diana (Nate) Cragun; 21 of the most wonderful grandchildren ever: Jennesa Coleman, Spencer Coleman, Caden Coleman, Hunter Coleman, Bree Coleman, Jarrett Coleman; Gavin Hardy, Brinley Hardy, Grant Hardy, Jace Hardy, Halle Hardy; Taysia Warmsley, Tiana Warmsley, Crew Warmsley; Paige Reynolds, Ty Reynolds, Tenley Reynolds; Gracelyn Cragun, Dawson Cragun, Dash Cragun, Kate Cragun; his sister Torey (Newt) Taylor, and brothers Charles 'Rusty' (Sandie) Hardy and Darreld Hardy as well as his dearly loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, as well as his grandson Hyrum Coleman and his nephew Jeremy Hardy. The family thanks the amazing team of caregivers from Encompass Hospice, especially his nurse Nancy and then Ann and the others that made his last few weeks a little less painful with love. Funeral services will be Monday, October 2 at 11 a.m. at the Grandview 18th Ward chapel, 1260 W. 1150 North in Provo. A viewing will be held at the same location on Sunday, October 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. and prior to the services from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Viewing doors will be closed at 10:30 as a special recognition from the CAP will take place before the funeral. President Spencer W. Kimball said "If two people love the Lord more than their own lives and then love each other more than their own lives ... they are sure to have great love and happiness." I had a world of love and happiness with you my Sweetheart, that will go on for eternity.
