During the fall of 1950 his National Guard Unit (which was half of the BYU football team) was activated because of the Korean War. He began teaching and coaching in the Alpine School District. He first taught at Lincoln High in Orem, taught for a year at BY High School but then returned to Orem High. He finished his teaching career at Mountain View High when it opened, thus ending his 30+ years of teaching.

His other employment opportunities include making and loading ice in refrigerated railroad cars, working several summers at Geneva Steele, a lifeguard and manager at the Provo Veterans Pool, 8 years as a tour guide for river running for Tour West Inc. and officiated wrestling and football games.

David married Judith Carling Stone, who had previously lost her husband to cancer. From that marriage Dave became stepdad to Mike, Debbie, and Linda. Dave and Judy enjoyed traveling the US, boating, camping and many other fun activities in their years together.

Dave was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served in many church positions such as Young Men's President, Ward Clerk, Counselor in two Bishoprics, High Counselor and Bishop.
