Obituary

On March 23, 2025, David T. Seamons, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed from this life into the next from metastatic melanoma. David has been reunited with his son Chris, his Son-in-law Steven Roy, his dear parents, and other loved ones on the other side of the veil.

Born on December 16, 1943, in Huntington Park, California, David grew up in La Canada, California. He was raised by goodly parents, Robert Christian Seamons and Jessie Mae Taylor, as the second of six children. He loved his siblings Terry, Scott, Jodi, Jeff and Sherri.

As a youth, David loved basketball and dreamed of playing for the LA Lakers. He played on the John Muir High School varsity basketball team, then later turned his energy to fast pitch softball. For 25 years he took the mound for his team, which in 1980, made it all the way to a world softball tournament, placing 11th in the world.

While at Brigham Young University, David met the love of his life, Ann (Finlayson) in the Cannon Center. "Ann gave me her dessert (and her heart) and our relationship began." They courted for more than four years, including writing to each other during the time David served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Alaskan-Canadian Mission. The couple was married in the Los Angeles Temple on July 23, 1966. This year marks 59 years of marriage. They raised five wonderful children: Kimberly (Roy), Todd, Brad, Tiffany (Pyle), and Chris. They were later blessed with 12 grandchildren and having his children and grandchildren around him brought David deep joy.

David earned a bachelor's degree in psychology, a masters degree in educational psychology and a PhD in clinical psychology from BYU. He embarked on a 45-year career as a marriage and family therapist in Provo, Utah. In his studies and career, his desire was to lift and bless others. Along the way, he enjoyed stints as an adjunct faculty member at BYU. He published magazine articles and book chapters on subjects ranging from spousal relationships to serving a mission to coping with stress. He was a devoted member of the Association of Latter-day Saint Counselors and Psychotherapists (AMCAP), where he served as president for several years.

A childhood dream of Dave's was to own a horse, and when he moved his young family into their longtime Provo home, the dream became a reality. Before long, he was invited on the inaugural overnight trek of the "Rough Riders," a group of friends that since 1990 has been heading out for adventure on horseback. Sitting around a campfire, warmed by the faith of his fellow riders as they shared life stories and insights, was something he deeply cherished.

David and Ann knew the importance and powerful positive influence of gatherings. They poured dedicated effort into ensuring that such gatherings happened. For decades, the two joyously hosted annual Christmas sing-alongs in their home. David had a lifetime love of music, and could often be found playing the piano.

Gentle and patient, kind and encouraging, David reflected many attributes of his Lord and Savior. As a dedicated disciple of Jesus Christ, one who was blessed with gifts in leadership and public speaking, David responded humbly to many calls to serve the Lord and to feed His sheep. These included bishop, stake president, mission president (Leeds, England), regional representative, gospel doctrine teacher and temple ordinance worker.

During his lifetime many hearts were lifted by his words. We take great joy in knowing that he gave his life to noble and holy causes, and in seeking the happiness and welfare of his loved ones and others. He will be thrilled to take his next assignments from the Lord. He looked forward to the opportunities to visit and minister to his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, and others in his circles of love, friendship, and connection.

David is survived by his beloved Ann; their children, Kimberly Roy, Todd Seamons (Kathryn), Brad Seamons (Tressa), and Tiffany Pyle (Ryan), twelve grandchildren, his three brothers and two sisters.
