July 28, 1931-September 15, 2018 Dean Fairbank, age 87, died September 15, 2018 from causes due to age. Dean was the first of two children born to Don H and Gladys O Fairbank. He was born in Artesia, California and soon moved where he spent the remainder of his young life in Bell, California. He attended Bell High School, class of 1950, was class President, Choir President, and played four years on the basketball team. There he met the girl he would eventually marry, Millie Louise Koontz. They were high school sweethearts, Millie 14 and Dean 16. After graduation, Dean enlisted in the United States Air Force and served four years during the Korean War. Once he was released from the Air Force, he returned to a partnership with his dad in the food business. He and Millie then moved to Trona, California and opened a new food market and department store. They lived there for 19 years. They moved to Orem, Utah and he was hired at BYU as a purchasing agent. He was promoted to oversee the purchasing departments of BYU Provo, Idaho, and Hawaii. He was later asked to be Assistant Vice President over the revenue areas at BYU Provo. He enjoyed that call until his retirement in January 1997. His church assignments during his lifetime were serving in two high councils, Branch President, Bishop, Ward and Stake executive secretary, High Priest group leader, and Stake President of the BYU 10th Stake. He was married to Millie for 60 years until her death in 2010. He later married Millie's best friend, Marie Davis, and together they spent a happy 7 years together. He is survived by his wife Marie, of Murray, and her children Karen Cooprider (Jay), Beth Shipp, and Denise Norman (Lloyd). He is also survived by his children Larry Fairbank (Marla), Daneen Wake (Ben), and Jolene Peterson (Brent). He has 21 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, son Lark, and grandson Andrew. Viewing will be held at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North in Orem on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday, September 20, 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to services. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sharon Stake Center, 545 South 800 East, Orem. Interment will be in Orem City Cemetery, 1520 North 800 East, Orem.
