Obituary

Our loving Husband, father and grandfather Dean Lamar Olsen passed away Saturday, March 16, 2019 in Orem Utah. Dean was born in Victor, Emery County, Utah on May 14, 1923 to John Alma and Emily Wells Olsen. He married Ruth Mildred Camp August 21, 1948 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple. Together they had 5 sons, Reginald Dean (Rosemarie), Dennis Lamar (Elaine), Douglas Roger (Carma), Jeffery Lynn (Shauna), and Kevin John (June). Dean and Ruth have 20 grandchildren and 55 great grandchildren. Dean was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. Dad was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. His family was everything to him. Dad served in the US Navy during WWII. He was stationed on the Aleutian Islands. Dad loved camping, fishing and hunting with his boys. He loved the great outdoors, Reading was his passion. Louis L'Amour being his favorite author. He loved reading about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and  everything else he could get his hands on. He was the most knowledgeable man we have ever known. If you asked him a question about any  subject he knew the correct answer. Dad worked as a butcher in Portland, Oregon prior to WWII. He then worked as a carpenter on the Boulder Dam after the war. He started at Geneva Steel and became a foreman over the Open Hearth and Central Maintenance. He spent 38 years there before retiring and enjoying life with his sweetheart Ruth. They then served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Jackson, Mississippi. They traveled many places in the United States from coast to coast and Canada. They bought their first home in North Orem where their first 4 boys were born. Then later moved to their current home in Orem where they have resided for 58 years and where they welcomed their 5th son. Mom and dad raised a beautiful garden every year where they taught their boys the value of hard work. Dad loved puttering in his shed where he built many things. Dad was a jack of all trades. He lived an honorable life and was an example to all who knew him. His humility, honesty and integrity were an example to us all. We will miss you deeply dad and are grateful for the knowledge that we will be reunited with you again someday. We love you dad with all our hearts.
