Obituary

Dean Morris Smith 90, of Orem, died on February 9, 2019 in Payson, Utah from causes related to age. He was born on May 23, 1928 in Morgan, Utah, the son of Arnold Hyrum Smith and Ines Morris Smith.  He married Gwen Elda Dawson on September 30, 1950 in Henefer, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.   He was a devoted husband, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He was known for the service he gave to family and friends. He was a kind and gentle man. Dean was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a carman for forty years. He served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army.  In his younger days he worked on the family ranch in Morgan, Utah. He is survived by his two sons, Garth (Marci) Smith of Orem, UT; Kelly (Mary Anne) Smith of Orem, UT;  one sister, Vada Brimley of Morgan, UT; six grandchildren, Tyler (Emily) Smith, Hilary (Dennen) Frazier, Megan (Joshua) Brandley, Rachel (Jedidiah) Smith, Tyson (Elizabeth) Smith and Kendall Smith; eight great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his spouse Gwen Elda Dawson, parents Arnold Hyrum Smith and Ines Morris Smith, sister Helen Smith Clark, brothers Verl A. Smith and Floyd L. Smith, and great-granddaughter Rowan Sage Frazier. Funeral services will be held February 16, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Timpanogos Park 3 rd Ward Chapel, 1000 North Main Street, Orem, Utah. Family and friends may call Friday evening, February 15 th , from 6-8 p.m. at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem, Utah and Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment, Orem City Cemetery 1520 North 800 East, Orem. Military Honors to be performed by American Legion Post 72.
