IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Delois Jean
Hobson
June 11, 1937 – October 22, 2021
Delois (Lois) Jean Cash Hobson was born in Buena Vista, Virginia on June 11, 1937, to John Hansford Cash and O'Della Wheeler. She was the oldest of five children. Raised in very humble circumstances, she started learning to play the piano at 8 years old and was playing every week for her LDS church congregation by age 11. Her happiest times as a child were listening to her daddy play the banjo and singing with her sisters.
Lois married Robert (Bob) Larrie Hobson in Washington, D.C. on February 1, 1958. They met during their senior year of high school, when Lois was "pinned" to a midshipman at the Naval Academy. Bob remembers that to get to her, he first had to "sink the Navy!" They were sealed in the Logan Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1966. Her proudest accomplishment was her family, including all the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Lois was the consummate "people person." She never met a person she didn't like or know their family history within 10 minutes – everyone she met was always her best friend. She taught her children patience by almost always being the last to leave the chapel on Sundays because she had to visit with everyone!
Lois was renowned for her beautiful gardens, with their "clean dirt" and overflowing colorful flowers, and for her cooking and baking. She had an incredible work ethic and was always busy helping and serving wherever she was needed. The world is a more beautiful place because of her.
Lois was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at nine years old in the South River near Buena Vista. Over the years, she served in many church positions, including Relief Society President, Primary President, Stake Young Women's President, and, of course, pianist/organist. She and Bob served a CES mission in St. George, Utah, for the church.
Lois passed away from complications due to Alzheimer's on October 22, 2021, at her home in Provo, Utah. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her siblings (Peggy (Glen) Goodsell, Carol Peterson, Joyce Roman, and John "Skeeter" Cash), children (Scott (Kay Lani) Hobson, Shelly (David) Mathie, Karla (Michael) Carter, and Donna (Ted) Christensen), 21 grandchildren, and 39 ½ great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 29, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home at 646 East 800 North, Orem, Utah 84097, and again on Saturday, October 30, from 9:30 – 10:30 am at the LDS Chapel at 762 East 1200 North, Orem, Utah 84097. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 30, at the Canyon View 3rd Ward, at 762 East 1200 North, Orem, Utah 84097.
