Obituary

Dennis LeRoy Hill

March 4, 1935 – September 14, 2022

Called home to be reunited with his eternal companion, Dennis LeRoy Hill, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 14th 2022. His sweetheart of sixty years had preceded him as she passed away in September of 2012.

Dennis met his wife LaRita at Payson High where, among many interests, he played football and other sports and established a passion for the vocational arts. During long summer recesses, he worked for the national forest service in pristine surroundings near the Canadian border of northern Idaho. It was here that Dennis gained a more profound appreciation for the magnificence of God's creations, as well as, additionally, an enhanced knowledge of what LaRita meant to him.

Dennis and LaRita were married in the Salt Lake Temple in June of 1955 and began their devotion in life's journey together. While attending Brigham Young University, Dennis pursued a degree in Vocational Education, with an emphasis in Teaching, and began service in church callings that would continue throughout his life.

Upon graduation Dennis began his teaching career at Orem High School where he taught for 25 years, beginning in World Studies Instruction and drafting. His performance as a Drafting Teacher resulted in a full assignment as Industrial Arts Educator, wherein he inspired many students in making important choices in life. Dennis would continue in pursuit of a Master's Degree in Communication. Then, he transferred to teach for another 14 years at Mountain View High School. He retired in 1996 after engaging with students for 39 years in what he found to be a very rewarding career.

His influence extended far beyond the classroom, as his family and church leadership callings were always a priority, and resulted in his serving in Bishoprics and as a Bishop, wherein he saw to the many needs of those in both the community and in his congregation. He placed the needs of widows and those in want as his highest priority. After being released as Bishop, he served as a counselor in Stake Presidencies and then as Stake President. In total, his service in leadership callings went on without interruption, for more than twenty-five years.

As for his love of God's creations, Dennis provided experiences for his family to engage in the outdoors in many memorable ways. Picnics, parks, lakes, rivers and mountain grandeur all were interwoven into family traditions.

Just as it is in many families, hunting, for Dennis, was a special opportunity to enhance relationships with his sons. He was a skilled fisherman, tying his own streamers (long flies), and treating angling as somewhat of an art. That is, until his sons were old enough to join in, without such finesse and, with slightly less success. As the children grew around their father's fishing passion, trout became a relished supper entrée, especially after a long enjoyable day on the lake.

In retirement, Dennis and LaRita would be called to serve on three missions. First, they were called to the Florida, Tampa Bay Mission, then to the MTC's Interpretation Department in Provo, and their third, to the Minnesota, Minneapolis Mission. Their joy came in serving others as companions in service to the Lord.

Dennis is survived by his children, Terry (Annette) Hill, Steven (Paula) Hill, Denise (Kevin) Call, Korlene (Curt) Crosby, Dan (Shauna) Hill, Warren (Shelly) Hill, 3 brothers, Farrell Hill, Lee Hill, Duane Hill, and sister Merlene Harris, 37 grandchildren and 63 Great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, LaRita, his parents, F LeRoy and Alene Argyle Hill, and 2 brothers, Garth Argyle Hill and Theron Frank Hill as well as one great-granddaughter, Grace Sydney Hill.
