In Loving Memory

Devin K York passed away peacefully at home, Tuesday September 3, 2024, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer; he was 61 years old. Devin was born on April 13, 1963, the fifth of six boys born to Bonnie Kay Jameson York and Jerry Lee York. Devin and his brothers grew up in a big house on Canyon Road, at the mouth of Hobble Creek Canyon, in Springville, Utah. They had horses, cows, a beautiful garden, and a large barn where they would host parties and dances. He attended Springville High School, where he was an honor student and a member of both the debate and golf teams. Golf was Devin's passion. He would spend his summers staying with family in Northern California, playing Pebble Beach Golf Course and taking golf lessons from his beloved mentor, Ben Doyle.

Devin attended Brigham Young University, where he played on the BYU golf team for Coach Carl Tucker. At the age of nineteen, he served a mission for his church and was assigned to the England Leeds mission. He grew to love the country of England and the people he met there. For years afterward, he would assert that he was a better driver than most Americans because he had to take the driver's license exam in England which was "much harder than it is in the U.S." This fact provided very little comfort to anyone who observed his driving.

Upon returning to the states, Devin married his sweetheart, Nannette Renee Losee, in the Salt Lake City Temple. The young couple moved to Salt Lake City, UT where Devin attended the University of Utah. It was during this time that Devin and Nannette welcomed their first child, Ashley York Thompson. When an opportunity to play golf for UC Irvine came up, they moved their young family to Southern California. Devin and Nannette would go on to have three more beautiful children, Devin Geoffrey York, Cassandra "Cassie" York, and Andrew Nicholas York.

Devin was a PGA golf professional. He had the opportunity to work and teach golf at several beautiful golf courses including, Hobble Creek Golf Course, Spanish Trail Country Club, Alpine Country Club, Hidden Valley Country Club, Thanksgiving Point, and Sleepy Ridge Golf Course. Sharing "the love of the game" with others brought him so much joy and he particularly loved working with children and organizing junior golf camps and programs.

Tragedy struck in 2003 when the couple lost their five-year-old son, Andrew, in a drowning accident on the Colorado River in Moab, Utah. This was a very difficult time for the family, but they made it through with the loving support of friends and family.

As a young man, Devin became an Eagle Scout, which helped to instill in him a deep love of the outdoors. He enjoyed spending time hiking, biking, and camping. He loved to explore the red rock deserts of Southern Utah and took his family on many adventures, hiking through dry arroyos and scrambling up slick rock sandstone to visit Ancestral Puebloan ruins and rock art sites.

Devin was a kind, compassionate, and loving person. He will be deeply missed. Devin is survived by his loving wife Nannette Renee Losee York, his children Ashley York Thompson, Devin Geoffrey York, and Cassie York, and his beloved granddaughters Ruby Ray York and June York. He is preceded in death by his son Andrew Nicholas York.

A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor October 11, 2024 at Hobble Creek Golf Course for family and friends at 11:00am
