Obituary

Diane Ludlow Asay, our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on May 1, 2023 in Provo, Utah after suffering a stroke. Diane was born in Logan, Utah on March 11, 1948 to Daniel Hansen and Luene Leifson Ludlow. The family moved to Indiana and New York before settling in Provo when she was eight. Diane's childhood was filled with siblings (one brother and seven sisters) and the family loved to play games and have contests. Her family even had a "weight gaining" contest because they were all so skinny. The family spent a dozen summers at Stony Lake, Michigan, which became one of her favorite places.

She met her husband, Doyle, at Provo High and they were married on August 17, 1967 in the Salt Lake Temple. They have 6 children. Their family lived in Provo, Springville and Orem and had a cabin in Hobble Creek Canyon and a home in Hurricane, Utah. Their family took over 50 trips to Lake Powell and all the children, including Diane, were scuba qualified.

Diane received a Masters degree in art education and taught briefly at Provo and Timpview High but mostly at Brigham Young University. Art was a passion and she loved it best if she could share it with others. She was on the board of the National Art Education Association and served on art councils, boards and committees. She was "Utah Art Teacher of the Year in 1996" and received the first Lifetime Achievement award from the Utah Art Education Association in 2014.

She loved to travel and felt fortunate to be able to do so. Her fondest trips were to Israel and Europe but she also enjoyed those with sea and sand and sunshine. Her family meant the world to her and her home and heart were open to many.

She served in various positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as ward Young Women's President and Relief Society counselor, stake Young Women and Relief Society presidencies, Gospel Doctrine teacher and Provo Temple ordinance worker.

Ever efficient and organized, Diane wrote this obituary herself years ago and while her family is grateful for her efforts, she failed to include all the love we feel for her. She was one of the brightest lights in our lives. She brought color to everything she touched and our lives are forever better for having had the privilege of belonging to her. She will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Sandra Ludlow and Ruth (Ludlow) Pierce. She is survived by her husband, Ellis Doyle Asay, her children Kimberly (Doug) Conant, Chad (Mollie) Asay, Todd Asay, Scott (Melissa) Asay, Sarah (Michael) Buhler, Cameron Asay and 13 adoring grandchildren.

A viewing will be held for Diane on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 from 6 to 8 PM at 575 S 400 W Orem, Utah chapel and on Wed, May 10, 2023 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. The funeral will be held at the same location on Wed, May 10, 2023 at 11:00 AM. Internment will follow at the Orem Cemetery 1520 N 800 E Orem, Utah.
