Obituary

Diane Georgia Hills Marshall passed away at the age of 76 on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at the Utah Valley Hospital due to complications from a stroke. She was born September 10, 1945 in Provo, Utah to Clinton McClain Hills and Beulah Wright Roberts Hills. She grew up in Orem, Utah with her parents and her two older siblings, Douglas Roberts and Opal Roberts Woffinden. She graduated from BY High School in 1963, where she was active in the Pep Club and the Orem Sub Deb Club. She attended Brigham Young University. As a young woman, she enjoyed working at the Safeway Bakery in Provo where she learned to make beautiful cakes and cookies. Her natural talent combined with the skills she learned at the bakery helped her serve numerous friends, family, and neighbors throughout the years. She was especially well known for her delicate and beautiful Valentine sugar cookies with pink rosebuds. She baked and decorated wedding cakes for friends and family. She was also very talented at designing event buffets, full of her beautiful culinary creations. She met the love of her life, Steven Marshall on a blind date that took place on her birthday in September of 1964. After Steven's return from Vietnam, they were married and sealed in the Manti LDS Temple on May 10, 1967. Diane and Steve settled in southwest Orem where they raised 3 children, Stephanie, Blake, and Derek. Their 2nd baby, Clinton was stillborn, and this gave Diane a tender and emphatic heart to all those who struggled with pregnancy and losing children. Diane created a beautiful and comfortable home with her natural talent for design. She was especially well-known for her modern "branch" Christmas tree. Their home was filled with friends, family, good food, sports, card games, and laughter. She created an environment where her kids' friends loved to congregate, and she fed them well. Diane loved to serve the children and youth of her neighborhood and local ward in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in the primary and young women's organizations. She enjoyed participating as a room mother in her children's classes and supporting them and their friends in sports and other activities. As a grandmother, she used her skills to make and decorate birthday cakes. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's events and giving them heartfelt, beautifully wrapped gifts. Diane was thrifty, loved to find a bargain, and liked to make things from scratch. She canned fruit, made jam, and hung her laundry outside on the clothesline. She baked the most delicious sour dough chocolate cake from her pioneer sour dough start. Diane is preceded in death by her father and mother – Clinton and Beulah; her brother - Douglas; her son - Clinton; her grandson - Braedon; her granddaughter - Paige; and her great grandson - Dax. She is survived by her husband of 54 years – Steven Marshall; her sister - Opal (George) Woffinden; her daughter - Stephanie (Jonathan) Davidson; her two sons, Blake Marshall and Derek (Chelsea) Marshall; and her grandchildren - Taylor Davidson, Tanner (Karlee) Davidson, Chase Davidson, Rylan Marshall, Keara Marshall, Tyson Marshall, Olivia Marshall, Camden Marshall, Carter Marshall, Brody Marshall, and Alexis Marshall.
