Obituary

Donna Mae Powell Shoell peacefully passed away on August 6, 2026, at the age of 98, surrounded by her four daughters. Donna would have celebrated her 99th birthday on August 21st.

Donna was born on August 21, 1927, to Thaddeus Ashton Powell and Nicoline Eliza Schow on their cattle ranch five miles southwest of Levan, Utah. She was the youngest of seven children and grew up in Levan and Lehi, Utah.

Donna graduated from Lehi High School and Quish Beauty School. She married Leland J. Shoell in the Salt Lake Temple on December 19, 1946. They made their home in Orem, Utah, where together they raised their four daughters. Donna found great joy and satisfaction in being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Donna had a strong sense of style and grace. She was independent and hardworking and approached life with a positive attitude. She loved children and showed great compassion for others. Donna also had a knowledge of her ancestors and enjoyed sharing their stories and family history with her family.

Donna was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings throughout her life. Some of her most memorable service included serving in the temple, in the Stake Relief Society Presidency and in the Primary.

Donna treasured spending time with family and friends. Throughout her life, she loved playing games, and many of us have fond memories of the time spent playing and laughing with her. She was an excellent cook and was especially known for her delicious homemade rolls.

Donna had a passion for gardening. Her yard was filled with beautiful flowers. She harvested fruits and vegetables from her garden, which she enjoyed sharing with others. She was an amazing seamstress and was skilled at needlework and many other crafts.

Donna is survived by her four daughters: Glenda Johnson (Dale) of Mount Vernon, Washington; Karela Berrett (Joel) of Springville, Utah; Leah Whitehead (Derrick) of Citrus Heights, California; and Nadine Petersen (Brent) of Ephraim, Utah. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Leland J. Shoell; her parents; her brothers, Marvin Powell, Keith Powell, Wayne Powell, and Glenn Powell; and her sisters, Ileene Jackman and Maurine Stephensen.

Donna leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, service and kindness. Our memories of her will remain in our hearts forever. She was grateful for her family, neighbors, and friends who blessed her life, and she deeply appreciated the love they showed her.

Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the aides and nurses who cared for Donna with such love and kindness.

A viewing will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Windsor 3rd Ward building, 1405 N. Main Street, Orem, Utah, on Friday, August 14, 2026, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m.
