Obituary

Doremis (Dee) [Elaine] Sumter Williams Williams (Written by Dee Williams) Our mother was born August 15, 1931, in Menomonie, Wisconsin, to Roy Malcolm Sumter and Mildred Leona Waller Sumter. Her early years were spent in Montana where her father worked on a government project. They then moved to Provo, Utah, where Dee went to school and graduated from Provo High School in 1949. She kept in contact with that graduating class and they called themselves the "49ers". She continued her education at Brigham Young University where she joined the Val Norn Social Unit and the Cougarettes, a marching and dancing group. She majored in secretarial practice and office management. She still remembered and used her shorthand skills. While at BYU she met Harold (Hal) Williams. They married on November 18, 1950. The marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on July 5, 1951. They spent their early married years in the United States Air Force living in Texas and New Jersey. Time in the military service took them to California where Hal taught school for many years. Music was always important to Dee. She played flute with the Santa Barbara California Concert Symphony. She was also skilled at playing the piano. Hal continued teaching at BYU and Dee pursued her office career. While there Hal and Dee traveled as chaperons with Program Bureau groups and special assignments to Europe, Alaska, and other places in the United States. Hal and Dee had five children during these years. Hal passed away with cancer May 31, 1993. Dee moved to St. George, Utah for the next few years and worked in the St. George Temple. Her dedication to genealogical work continued while there. While living in St. George, Dee met Robert Williams in the Southern Utah Heritage Choir. They married June 7, 1997 in the St. George Temple. After a few years of traveling, going to the Temple, playing golf, hiking, and photography, Bob passed away on March 15, 2001. Dee moved back to Orem and with family members, developed property on the Provo River. Dee has 24 grandchildren, and 48 great-grandchildren. Her later years were spent in assisted living residences, most recently living in Spring Gardens in Lindon, Utah. She was preceded in death by her third child, Todd and is survived by Debra (Roy) Greeff, Brad (Lori) Williams, Kristy (Denny) Vest, and Shelby (Chris) Killpack. Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 20, 2019, Canyon View 3rd Ward Chapel, 753 East 1200 North, Orem, Utah. A visitation will be prior to services at the church, 9:30 - 10:30 a.m., Interment in Orem City Cemetery, 1520 North 800 East, Orem.
