Obituary

Dorene Davis McQuivey, 86 of Orem, passed away April 1, 2022, surrounded by her family.

She was born November 20, 1935, in Salem, Utah, to Reed and Terrissa Davis. She graduated from Spanish Fork High school and attended Henager Business School. Dorene married her high school sweetheart, Lee J. McQuivey, on June 3, 1955, in the Salt Lake Temple. Both Dorene and Lee were born and raised in Salem. After their marriage, Dorene worked as a secretary in Logan, while Lee attended Utah State University. Dorene and Lee settled in Orem, in 1967, where they raised five children.

Dorene was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and she enjoyed serving in many church callings. Her service included full-time missions with Lee to Omaha, and Washington D.C. She served for many years as a temple worker. Dorene also completed a service mission with Lee in Salt Lake City.

She had a love for music and the arts and she and Lee enjoyed attending musical productions for many years at BYU with their friends. Dorene loved doing temple and family history work and was a talented artist in oil painting and watercolor. She was a skilled seamstress and loved cooking and entertaining.

Dorene's full-time job was that of a wife and mother. Her primary focus was caring for her husband and family, and her family will be forever grateful to her for her love and example.

Dorene began losing her sight when she was about 35 years old due to a progressive eye disease. She had the challenge of not being able to drive and relied on Lee, her children and many good friends and neighbors to get around. As this condition progressed, she lost most of her sight. She enjoyed listening to books on tape provided by Utah State Library for the Blind. In her later years she greatly missed being able to see the faces of her grandchildren. She was looking forward to the resurrection with faith that her sight would be restored.

Dorene was preceded in death by her father, Reed; mother, Terrissa; sister, Judy; and brother, Jack. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Lee; a sister, Pat (Bob); five children: LeAnn (Bob), Kathleen (Greg), Alan (Brenda), Jay (Heidi) and Lisa (Grant); 20 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
