Dorene Hartley Okerlund
1929 – 2021
Dorene Hartley Okerlund passed from this world June 19, 2021. She was born in Stirling, Alberta, Canada on March 22, 1929, to William Russell and Malinda Oler Hartley. She attended Brigham Young University, where she met her future husband.
She married Maeser D Okerlund on June 19, 1952, in the Cardston, Alberta Temple. They had four sons: Dale (Sara), Dan (Martha), Brian (Ann), and Eric (Vicki) as well as two daughters, Anita Jean and Valerie, who died as infants. They have 18 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
In addition to her dedication to the well-being of her family, Dorene created an exceptionally beautiful and comfortable home which she generously shared with extended family and friends. She excelled at her hobbies, sewing, gardening, and cake decorating. She also produced a superbly crafted autobiography, privately published by her family.
She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in numerous ward and ministering callings and assignments. After Maeser's retirement, they both served a Church History mission in Salt Lake City, Utah. She is survived by her sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her love, family holiday meals and constant example of faith will be missed.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, June 30 at the Hillcrest 6th Ward, 1035 S., 800 E., in Orem. There will be a viewing that morning at 9:00 am. A live webcast of the funeral will be available on www.walkersanderson.com where condolences and memories may also be shared.
