Obituary

Douglas Arthur Wixom, was born in Ogden Utah on March 5, 1942 to Carnell Partridge Wixom and Adina Hart Wixom passed away suddenly on November 21, 2022 at the age of 80. He grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from South High School in 1960. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Southern Australia Mission from 1961-1963. After his mission he attended Brigham Young University where he received a BS in psychology and a Master's Degree in Physical Education. He then attended the University of Utah where he received a Ph.D. In educational administration.

He had a lifelong love of playing in, coaching and watching sports. In high school, he lettered in track and field, played tennis for BYU and later was the assistant coached of the BYU team. In his career as a teacher, he had several opportunities to coach, and loved teaching kids to love and enjoy sports. He was an avid BYU fan and never turned down the opportunity to attend a game in person, though he loved watching in the most animated way in his room.

Doug loved tennis and was Utah state singles champion for several years and won several trophies and ribbons. His crowning achievement was winning a gold medal in the Men's Doubles at the Senior Olympics in 2019 at the age of 77. It was almost fitting that it was on a tennis court that he left us to return to his heavenly home and family.

Doug also enjoyed being on the river. He has fly fished all over the country, Canada, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand. He tied his own flies and was an expert on the Provo River. For much of his life, he fished daily and enjoyed being there. When his back was unwilling, he started to take a folding chair and pop it down in the river so he could still fish.

He married Charmagne Wixom in 2000. He had 5 children and Charmagne had 6 which made for very large and wonderful family dinners. Doug and Charmagne shared a wonderful life together. Doug introduced her to fishing and Doug was introduced to Charmagne's Hawaiian culture and family. As they dated, he wrote her daily love letters. As a husband, he always looked for ways to show his love and make her feel appreciated. He made sure to give her at least 20 hugs per day. Charmagne was the love of his life. Next to being a husband, Doug loved his role as a father and grandfather. He made a special point to compliment and build up his children and grandchildren and celebrate their successes, even the small ones with them.

Doug was preceded in death by his mother and father, sister Shari and brother Hartt, and his son Kaleb. He is survived by his wife Charmagne, his 4 children (Thor, Shiblon, Adina and Korom), his six stepchildren (Joshua, Jared, Jordan, Elisabeth, Emmalee and Jacob), their 31 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
