Obituary

Dr. Duane Leo Aldous, 90, died July 7, 2021 in Highland, UT. Duane was born on his father's birthday, November 2, 1930 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Clarence Moroni Aldous and Sarah Eunice Robinson. Duane grew up on the east coast and in the western United States. He served in the Army during the Korean War in the medical corp in Okinawa. It was there he met and married Barbara Kaluapalaoa Kekauoha in 1955. A year later they were sealed in the Laie, Hawaii Temple. Upon completion of his service in the military, they moved to New Mexico where he graduated with a Ph.D in organic chemistry from the University of New Mexico. He worked as a research chemist for Dupont in North Carolina for several years. Later he moved to Louisiana and worked as a professor and dean of the college of pharmacy at Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans. He also had an assignment as a research associate for The National Center for Health Services Research in Washington, D.C. His final employment was as the Director of the lab at NuSkin, International in Provo, Utah. Duane was an active and dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many callings including ordained as a Seventy and a Bishop of the Jefferson Ward in Metairie, Louisiana. He and his wife, Barbara served an 18 month mission in Nauvoo, Illinois. They also spent a year in the BYU sponsored China Teachers Program where they taught English to Chinese students at Jinan University. He served 12 years with his sweetheart in the Mount Timpanagos Temple as an ordinance worker. Duane's passions included doing everything with his beloved wife, Barbara: developing cosmetics, gardening and harvesting his bounty, traveling the world, journaling and taking videos of everything and everyone. He is survived by his brother Alan Aldous, his five children: Keith (Charis) Aldous, Valerie (Rob) Lunnen, Jeffrey (Chantale) Aldous, Melanie (Kirk) Roney, Wade (Sherri) Aldous; 26 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren and counting.
