Marie M. King
June 10, 1938 to November 2, 2026
Edith Marie (Mansfield) King, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at her home in Provo, Utah on Monday, November 2, 2026 at the age of 88. Marie is survived by her husband, the love of her life, John Wesley King, to whom she was married for 64 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, John Henry Mansfield and Charlotte (Berry) Mansfield as well as all of her siblings. Marie was a wonderful mother to her two sons, Blake (Susan) King, and Dale (Tiffany) King. She is the cherished grandmother of Tyler (Kea), Justin (Rylie), Hannah (Neil) Davis, and Brant (Brooke) King; as well as Brendon (Brianna) King and Ryan (Sabrina) King. Marie especially enjoyed being a great-grandmother to Ella, Riggs, Brooks, Carter, Covey, Claire, Isla, Vera, and Cosette. Marie will be missed by many, including other relatives and dear friends.
Marie was born on June 10, 1938 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was raised nearby in a small farming community. She was the youngest of twelve children. Her ancestors were among the earliest pioneers who settled in Utah. It is evident that Marie inherited their work ethic and faith. She exhibited those traits throughout her life.
She met her husband, John, on a blind date while living in Idaho Falls. John was stationed there with the Navy and Marie was working in a medical office. They were soon inseparable. After a short engagement, John and Marie were married on January 27, 1962 and later were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. They moved frequently to various places including: Wisconsin, Illinois, California, Washington, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Florida, and even New Brunswick, Canada.
During their early marriage they were blessed with two sons, Blake and Dale. Marie was an excellent mother and homemaker who was definitely busy raising two young boys. Her sons remember her being a fun Cub Scout Den Mother too. She supported them in their sporting events, school activities, and church responsibilities. Both sons served LDS missions.
After settling in Provo, Marie became an avid BYU Sports fan. She and John often attended various games including Basketball, Football, Volleyball, and Gymnastics. Marie could rattle off BYU trivia at a moment’s notice and she always seemed to know the latest about BYU Sports, especially Basketball.
Marie’s life was filled with service to others especially at church. She served in many organizations including Primary, Young Woman’s and Relief Society. Her example and kind acts will long be remembered.
Visitation at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home in Provo on Friday, November 6th from 6-8 pm. The funeral will be November 7th at 11:00 am at the Marrot Meadow Building of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 102 North 2400 West, Provo. An additional viewing will be held from 10-10:45 am. Burial to follow at Provo City Cemetery.
