Elayne Salmon Butler
March 5, 1930-August 28, 2021
Elayne Salmon Butler passed away on August 28, 2021, from an abdominal aneurysm.
Elayne was the first child born to Scott Walker Salmon and Ruth Holt Salmon in Raymond, Alberta. She had many wonderful memories of camping out on the farm while her father harvested wheat and her mom cooked for the men that were helping to harvest. She was blessed with a love of the gospel of Jesus Christ and was very careful to honor her covenants. She served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from 1951-53 in the British Isles, spending most of her time in Scotland and Northern England. She was a deeply spiritual person throughout her life.
As a young woman, she worked at a Customs House at the US/Canadian border and was eventually offered a position with a trucking company in Oakland California where she met and married Lynn Butler. She had five children before they divorced.
She was a strong single mother of her very independently minded children and they certainly helped her to learn godly patience during their teen years. She was very pragmatic and met each challenge head on. She sacrificed tremendously for her family. She was a great example to all around her and she was dearly loved by her children and grandchildren. She leaves a legacy of commitment, faithfulness, and quiet strength.
Elayne was a very kind person and a one-of-a-kind listener. She was one of the few people that never said a bad thing about anyone.
She is survived by her five children, Suzanne, Steve (Margo), Richard (Jana), Cherilyn (Rick) McAlister, and Michelle (Isaac) Freebairn, 13 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Her children will rise up and call her blessed at a funeral to be held on Friday September 3, 2021, at 11 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1136 West 700 South, Pleasant Grove, UT. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral from 10:00-10:45AM. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove City Cemetery. Condolences may be offered to the family online at www.walkersanderson.com.
