We the family of our beloved, Elmer J Gerber, would like to honor his life on Tuesday, June 15th at the Sharon Stake Center located at 6th So 800 E. in Orem, Utah at 11:00 AM. Elmer, born on December 13, 1924, in Payson, Utah, was reunited with his eternal sweetheart, LaRue, on June 4, 2021, in St George, Utah, at the home of his daughter, Peggy, where he had been living since November.
As a carpenter, Elmer constructed good strong homes. He was aware that a strong foundation was essential in building homes and family. He provided that foundation for us with his quiet and patient ways, his hard work and strong faith. As his children, we never had cause to doubt his love or his counsel. He selflessly went about doing good, bracing up and lending support wherever needed. We watched him cherish our mother for 74 years, most especially through mom's Alzheimer years.
With that twinkle in his eye, he was not afraid to be silly! He loved a good joke. At the age of 70, he put down his hammer to take up a golf club. Close to that time, he and LaRue also took up square dancing which took them to many places. Elmer enjoyed hunting and fishing in the mountains and streams of Utah, taking mom on long drives, and playing Grandpa Santa for his large posterity each Christmas. He was such a good father and grandpa! And besides that, he could hula and yodel! As a veteran, Elmer served our country as a navy man in Pearl Harbor during World War II. His love for God was paramount in his actions and his desire to honor Him was his life-long goal.
Elmer is survived by his daughters, Peggy (Terry Taylor), Nancy (Bruce McPhie), Brenda (John Barry), and son Wallace "Wally" Gerber and by 22 grandchildren, 69 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren, brothers Marvin (Alene), and Sterling (Laurel). Elmer was proceeded in death by his wife, LaRue, daughter, Patricia Sue, (Mike MaKay) his parents Hugh and Edna Gerber, siblings Joyce and brother Wayne.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at 11:00 am in the Sharon 6th Ward 545 South 800 East, Orem. Family and friends may visit Monday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem, or Tuesday morning at the church from 9:30-10:30 am. Interment will be in Orem City Cemetery.
