Obituary

Emma Call, aged 67, passed away on July 8, 2023 at her home in Orem, Utah. She died peacefully after suffering from brain cancer. Emma was the daughter of Stanley Augustus Houghton, Sr. and Emma Stratton. She was born May 11, 1956 in Provo and grew up in Orem. She attended Orem High School where she was active in band and debate. She graduated in 1974. In 1977, she graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Elementary Education. After graduation she taught sixth grade at South Jordan Elementary for one year.

On July 22, 1977 she married Curtis Ivan Call in the Provo Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They lived in Utah for the next nine years. In 1987, she moved to Maine with her family where they lived until 2022 when she was diagnosed with cancer, after which she relocated to Orem.

Emma will always be remembered as a truly remarkable wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She will also be known as a wonderful friend and teacher. She loved serving others and bringing beauty into their lives. She played the piano and blessed her home, family, and others with music. She was also a beloved piano teacher. She loved to quilt and her children, grandchildren, and many other family members still enjoy her beautiful handiwork.

Besides serving her family, her primary interest was serving others. During her time in Maine she served in many capacities in the Church, including stake and ward Relief Society President, stake and ward Young Women's President and early morning seminary teacher. She was also an ordinance worker in the Boston Massachusetts Temple for fifteen years. More importantly, however, was her ability to inspire individuals with her love, compassion, service, and understanding. She had a unique ability to inspire and motivate children, teenagers, and adults with this genuine love and concern.

She is survived by her husband Curtis, her four children and their spouses, Richard and Kimberly Call of Wilmington, Massachusetts, Emma Catherine and David Adolphson of Cumberland, Maine, Jennifer and Brian Chantry of Orem, Utah and Michelle and Jerry Ding of Lisle, Illinois, and fourteen grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Stanley Houghton, Dale Houghton and her sister Ann Howard. She was preceded in death by her sister Laura Christiansen.

Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 481 E. Center Street in Orem, Utah on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 11:00 with a viewing preceding the service beginning at 9:30. An additional service in Maine will be announced later.
